Chistmas lunch menu - wdyt?

We're having a total of 8 people for Christmas bunch/lunch - here's my menu plan, what do you think? DH's family is Italian, hence having ravs with the meal since that is what "makes" it Christmas for him.

App - Antipasto plate with meats, cheeses, olives, peppers, really yummy bread, and mushroom turnovers (hot)

Main meal - ham, ravioli, mashed sweet potato,  green veg, bread, cranberry sauce, and maybe a orzo and rice salad

Dessert - TBD (any suggestions?), plus cookies and candy out

I haven't shopped yet so pretty much anything can be changed except the antipasto and the ravs (DH's requests). I could do a roast or leg of lamb, but I thought the ham would go home better with people for leftovers plus it's less work for me.

  • hmmmmm. For the main meal, you have alot of starchy items so maybe a green salad would be good instead of a rice salad (unless someone requested it). I thinking having just ham would work.

As for dessert,  I am thinking an apple crumble or crisp?

What about a spinach salad? Either with blue cheese and nuts or hot bacon dressing?

And I'd been thinking about something apple for dessert...off to google a recipe!

    Thanks for the input!

OH heck yah! Spinach salad would work for sure!

I have a recipe for an apple crisp, if you need one.

    Ok, I am now hungry.

  • I'd love your recipe for apple crisp :)

I did fine a recipe for individual apple tartlets on Cooks Illustrated that looked good too...

Something apple with some vanilla ice cream and dessert will be covered (plus we have a bunch of candy and other cookies as well).

Loved the salad suggestion - I think the spinach salad is what it was "lacking" but I couldn't think of it.

can you get me your email addy so I can send youthe apple crisp recipe.

However those tartlets sound just as good.

  • The menu sounds great! You could also make a roast w/ the ham. I'm all for tons of food on Christmas though ;)

I agree with adding a spinach salad instead of the rice/orzo.

I thought about a roast or lamb but 4 of the 8 are not big eaters so I think 2 meats plus ravs is overkill for our group. Thanks for the input!
