Re: Sunday Night/Holiday Meme
1) Favorite holiday tradition this time of year: Driving through my hometown Christmas Eve, there's a huge neighborhood where everyone puts out luminaries, and you turn your headlights off and just drive around, listening to music. It's kind of meditative, and very beautiful.
2) Favorite holiday food: My dad's homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. He's made them every year for as long as I can remember.
3) Best present you ever got: My piano
4) Best present you ever gave: I'm pretty proud of the inscribed pocketwatch I got DH the first Christmas we were together.
5) Least favorite thing about the holidays: When perfectly sane people go absolutely nutty over traveling, shopping, and spending time around family. It's kind of fascinating...
6) Have you been naughty or nice this year? Overall, nice with moments of naughty.
7) Favorite holiday movie: Tie between White Christmas and Elf
8) Favorite holiday song: Josh Groban's Oh Holy Night
9) Least favorite holiday song: That damn Christmas Shoes song. I *hate* it. Hate, hate, hate.
10) New Year's Plans? Probably low key this year. A friend's house and then home, maybe even before midnight. DH has to work at 7am New Year's day, so no heavy partying (which I am actually ok with). Maybe we'll get chinese food New Year's night and pop some champagne.my blog
1) Favorite holiday tradition this time of year: Baking Christmas desserts!
2) Favorite holiday food: Christmas eggs casserole
3) Best present you ever got: Oh wow, umm....DH got me the watch I was drooling over a couple years ago which was awesome. But, honestly (and this will be cheesy) it was probably last year when my parents welcomed DH (then FI) into our family. They were pissed at his parents for being complete asssholes. Anyways, they gave him the best Christmas of his life. It was for me, for him, and because they are amazing people.
4) Best present you ever gave: The Willows Tree Nativity scene to my Grandmother and the equipment to Skype to my mommy.
5) Least favorite thing about the holidays: Waiting for Christmas Eve service
6) Have you been naughty or nice this year? Nice
7) Favorite holiday movie: Miracle on 34th Street
8) Favorite holiday song: What Child is This? Love Carrie Underwood's version
9) Least favorite holiday song: Silver Bells
10) New Year's Plans? none yet...maybe go home?

I am curious if this is similar to MIL's "Christmas Breakfast Casserole"...Is it heart attac- inducing?

6) I think we all remember you telling us about "teh magic heels." Haha!
9) Ditto. I hatehatehatehate that song! Aside from the fact that it sucks the joy out of the air, Jesus doesn't care what shoes you're wearing.

Bahahaha I LOL'ed at that. My sister is always trying to pick fights with my family about 'holiday trees' and the 'real' origin of the date of Christmas, etc. etc. and I get so.sick of hearing it. I mean my God, everyone can believe what they want to, there doesn't have to be a right and a wrong.
1) Favorite holiday tradition this time of year: cooking/baking if you call it a tradition
2) Favorite holiday food: butterscotch crunchies. It was my late grandma's recipe, she used to make it every year and always looked forward to them.
3) Best present you ever got: My engagement ring. Yes, I LOVE Christmas and my DH proposed to me on Dec. 17th (he couldn't wait).
4) Best present you ever gave: A extremely large box full of balloons. They were for my nieces and nephews and they couldn't get enough of it.
5) Least favorite thing about the holidays: My mother's nagging about everyone is too busy to spend the entire day with her. My siblings and I have other families to also tend to and she doesn't get it. (side note: she is a little selfish. And I can go on and on about her)
6) Have you been naughty or nice this year? Both, depends on who you talk to.
7) Favorite holiday movie: A Christmas Story and Santa Claus: The Movie
8) Favorite holiday song: Overall: Carol of the bells. Otherise, anything by TSO.
9) Least favorite holiday song: Can't think of one. I like all the songs in general.
10) New Year's Plans? Party at our house!
1) Favorite holiday tradition this time of year:
Lighting the menorah candles with my husband, driving around to look at Christmas lights with my family
2) Favorite holiday food:
Either latkes or spiced apple pie. Yum!
3) Best present you ever got:
Hmmm this is a tough one...I've gotten a lot of great presents over the years...I love the jewelry set that DH got me for Chanukkah last year (it was supposed to be a wedding present but he couldn't wait) or perhaps the American Girl Doll collection that my parents gave me (I'm a doll collector/stuffed animal collector...haven't been too much lately - don't have the space!)
4) Best present you ever gave:
Again a tough one! I would have to say the Star of David necklace I got for DH after someone stole his.
5) Least favorite thing about the holidays:
People's horrible attitudes everywhere you go! And the fights that MIL causes every year over nothing
6) Have you been naughty or nice this year?
Overall nice...a bit naughty perhaps!
7) Favorite holiday movie:
Love Rudolph and Frosty...classics
8) Favorite holiday song:
Silent Night
9) Least favorite holiday song:
The many parodies of '12 Days of Christmas'...it's like leave it alone!!
10) New Year's Plans?
Staying in with some great appetizers and champagne. Don't want to be out this year!
1) Favorite holiday tradition this time of year: My extended family gets together the day after Christmas to eat, drink and spend time together. It is probably my favorite day of the year.
2) Favorite holiday food: Cookies and Swedish meatballs, which I haven't had since my grandparents passed. I'm going to try my hand at it this year, though!
3) Best present you ever got: Last year MIL got us a framed drawing/print(?) of my family crest and H's family crest with our wedding date on it. I love it.
4) Best present you ever gave: Hmmm, maybe the BeerTender I got H a few years ago?
5) Least favorite thing about the holidays: Crowded stores. Large crowds make me itchy!
6) Have you been naughty or nice this year? Umm...mostly nice.
7) Favorite holiday movie: Does The Nightmare Before Christmas count? I love that movie.
8) Favorite holiday song: Little Drummer Boy by David Bowie and Bing Crosby, I think.
9) Least favorite holiday song: I don't know! I'm not a huge Christmas song fan, so I can't pick just one least favorite. I've never heard the Christmas Shoes song, but I've never heard anything good about it.
10) New Year's Plans? We'll be in Wisconsin for our anniversary trip! Hopefully drinking lots of champagne and enjoying our alone time.

no, not really. Just eggs, peppers, cottage cheese, ham, cheddar cheese, and hashbrowns. Ok, so maybe it's not the healthiest casserole ever but it's yummy!!

The billboards bother me. Not because they're trying to advertise Christmas as a myth, I mean if they want to pay the money for them fine, it's free country, but that they think they can actually change people's opinions with them. People are so set in their religious beliefs! I don't think anyone's going to look at those billboards and change their minds.

As a happy agnostic that LOVES Christmas, I totally agree!

I haven't seen any of these billboards...
Oh Panda, you made me LOL. On the other end of the spectrum there are the people who are so offended by anyone saying anything like "happy holidays" that they say "Merry Christmas" to everyone in a tone that makes me think they're using it as an insult. Like "Nyah, nyah, Merry Christmas, fool."
Yes, teh magic heels have been patiently waiting in their little box for our anniversary to make another appearance.
And if you feel like bleeding internally, here's the Christmas Shoes song...

That song was BRUTAL. And dude, those shoes are fug.
Also, ITA with the overzealous Merry Christmas people. "Well I celebrate CHRISTMAS - NOT A RANDOM HOLIDAY!"
