breakfast? dinner? or both?

do you think a country ham (the salt curred one, not honey baked or glazed) is best served for breakfast or dinner? i've only had it for breakfast with biscuits.

Re: breakfast? dinner? or both?

  • I've only had it at breakfast.
  • I only like the sweet hams, so you'll have to take this opinion for what it's worth (not much).  I think you could serve it at either.  My reasoning is that at Cracker Barrel they ask if you want the sweet or salty ham when you order the ham dinner.  So I guess if you serve it at dinner you won't be alone!  Stick out tongue
  • We've had it for both.

If we have it for breakfast, then we serve it on biscuits.

If we have it for dinner, we serve it "plain".  Meaning, not on anything.

  • if i did it for dinner (Christmas Even dinner) then i'd probably need to do a second meat too. like meatloaf or some baked chicken.

    what do you think?

  • We have a second meat just because not everyone likes country ham.  In fact, DH loves it but I can't stand it.  It's way too salty for me.

In addition to the country ham, we usually have either a honey-baked ham or a turkey.   I think chicken or meatloaf would be fine.

  • Country ham is too salty for me as well, and if you do serve it for dinner then I too would recommend a second meat.  What you have already suggested sounds fine to me!  I think it's all about your audience, really--and I definitely don't know your friends/family that will be enjoying this festive meal.  :)
  • I think you could serve it for dinner with another meat. I probably would not serve a second ham though.
