Conceiving after IUD

Hello!

I'm considering getting and IUD and the previous posts have been helpful.

Aside from the foreign idea that there is something sitting in my uterus, I have this anxiety that it will somehow make me sterile, even though I've been assured that IUDs do not affect fertility (except in the way they're designed to). I've never had a baby but definitely want to some day.

Has anyone out there had their first baby AFTER getting Mirena or Paraguard removed?

Not personally, but my sister had that in between her two children. The first child took 5 months of trying. They were assuming it might take just as long for the 2nd child, but it only took 2-3 months after she had it removed. GL

I know a couple of ladies/friends who had conceived after IUD within a couple of months. I have had my Mirena since May 09 and we're looking to maybe TTC in about 15 months, so I'm hoping the pattern sticks!

i know 2 people that conceived while on mirena. ha. so i'd say no-it does not impact fertility!

Seriously? If IUDs made you sterile, don't you think you'd have read about it somewhere?

If you're concerned, talk to your doctor.

I went to 2 different doctors, and neither would give me an IUD because I have not yet had children and both of them told me that it can make you sterile. It is a very low chance, but it can happen. It was not worth the risk for me.

That was my thought too after the first one. The second one told me the same thing. Maybe because I'm in my early 20's? I don't see how that would matter though...

Lurker popping out. I'm in my early twenties as well, and my doctor hands down recommended the Mirena IUD. She has one herself and loves it. I second that you need to get a new doctor.

I got pregnant 3 months after having my IUD pulled.

The problematic IUD is no longer made. It was discontinued in the 70s. My H had major reservations when I had my IUD put in initially but clearly, it didn't have an impact on my fertility. We were REALLY trying only for 1 month when I got pregnant.

I would highly recommend the Paragaurd - no hormones - IUD. My body didn't do so well on BCPs and I liked the idea of a non-hormonal BC. It has worked perfectly and there have been no side effects. My Dr. told me it would be painful since I haven't had kids -- and it was, but just for the first day. Also, she told me it could make my periods heavier but they are lighter than they were when I was on BCPs. Check with your insurance because they totally covered it when it was done in their office, but wouldn't have if it was done in the hospital.

I don't have children, and I got my Mirena the month I turned 25.

Doc 1 said no-go. Doc 2 put it in after one consultation.

Honestly, I just called a GYN office and said: "Does the doctor approve of intserting IUDs in women without children?"
