Did I tell ya'll

The girl (soon to be ex SIL) who took my wedding photographs - who told me she wanted to turn pro - has done just that. I don't know if I ever told ya'll but my wedding photos turned out horrific. At first I thought it was camera failure, but upon inspection, it's just that she is that bad. I mean, most of the pictures she took are unusable - nearly two years later, I'm still working them over in photoshop to make them decent enough to print! She thinks that anything wrong with a photo (including people who don't smile or have an "acceptable" look on their face) can be photoshopped. Ugh!

She missed a lot of the shots I told her I wanted - I have no shots with my mother, none of my family, none of C with his family, etc etc.  So when I saw she was "going pro" I thought people would see right through her and she'd fail. I know it's mean, but that's really what I wanted to happen. Instead, people are DROOLING over her horrible shots (she's really NOT that much better than two years ago) and talking about how she's a "visionary". Meanwhile my dog could take better pictures with his tail!

But the topper was tonight ... she uses FB as a biz tool and she posted perhaps THE worst shot of her new camera that she's so proud of. It seriously looks like it was taken with a phone camera ... and this is what she uses to keep in touch with contacts.

I'm seriously shaking my head over here ...  Are her friends really this blind?!?

Re: Did I tell ya'll

  • Photography is something you either have the eye for or don't, and no matter how hard you try it just won't work.  I love to take pictures, but I will be honest I'm never turning pro, because I know I don't have a good eye for it.

Its sad that after almost two years you're still trying to fix your photos.  I hope you at least got a few good ones.

  • Yeah, friends can be that blind... or just that "supportive" that they'll like and blow smoke up her butt to be "nice."  Of course, the more charitable thing would be if they told her not to waste her time and money.
  • I remember your pictures!!! I actually emailed my photographer and asked what the heck had happened with them. Ugh..... I'm so sorry that all happened.

She's gotta have friends blowing smoke up her butt. It won't last long. The minute she gets a non-friend paying client, they'll slam her.

quilty, does she have a business website or blog that we can go to see some of her photos?

    Yes, please!

What I've noticed is that people whose eyes are to art as tone deaf is to music (art blind?) really like bad photography. I mean really, really like it. It disgusts me. They don't even know that they have no taste.

  • I would rather not post the link to her website here because she could probably trace it back here and know who I was right off ... let me think about this a bit to come up with some way to show you all what I'm talking about. She's removed a lot of the worst photos from the website, but there are still a couple that just make me wonder wtf she's thinking ...

    image

  • you could put it broken up, like "her web name dot com" with spaces in between. It won't register then.
  • Well ... let me say that it has a butterfly (Monarch) and digital and the word photography in it ...

    Dot com!

I guess maybe those are her best pics - she's changed them since she launched because she had much worse up. Looks like she's taken a lot of stuff off ... but there are a couple I wouldn't dare put on a website to promote myself.

What I don't understand is why she would make it possible for anyone to order pics of anyone else on her website ... There are way too many freaks out there for me to be comfortable with that idea!

  • Re: ordering pics of anyone

ESPECIALLY not of my newborn. Weird weird weird.

  • Yeah, I thought all pro photogs would have the separate sections with password protection for ordering.

Just one of the MANY reasons I don't consider her a pro. She never even offered to help me fix the horrible pics she took of our wedding. She KNEW I was unhappy with them and basically told me that if I had wanted a "real" photographer I should have hired a professional.

When she decided to launch this biz I told her on FB I hoped she wasn't planning to shoot weddings ... she quickly removed the post. The real thing is, of the two dozen or so decent photos on her website, I've seen probably 3000 images she's shot that are horrible ... not really good odds for a "pro."

  • Geez, from "you should've hired a real pro" to "I'm a pro now" in 0.6 seconds? Well I hope anyone getting married is smart... our photogs pulled out a couple boxes of full sets of proofs of weddings so we could see ALL het shots of any given event. This chick is in trouble if she's asked for that.
