Does anyone know of any animal rescues in the Triad area that are accepting dogs? A stray puppy followed my mom & their dog home from a walk yesterday in Kernersville and are trying to find someone to accept her. She appears to be a pit bull mix (in my mom's opinion--I haven't seen her). She is tan & black, and is probably 4 mos old or so. She says she is as sweet as can be. My parents aren't able to keep her. They will probably surrender her to animal control, but wanted to try to place her in a rescue themselves if they can.
Any recs? Or, if anyone you know is looking for a pet, perhaps we can match them up. I can get more info on her if needed.
Re: RP: Animal Rescues in the Triad area?
I volunteer for the Guilford County Animal shelter, but don't know their policy on dogs--especially pit bulls (their website though is adoptshelterpets.org). The only thing off hand that I know about is the Greyhound rescue in our area...and this site for animal rescue http://www.reddogfarm.com/surrendering.html may give you and/or your mom some helpful hints.
In the meantime, does your mom have a garage or anything where she might be able to temporarily give the dog a warm place to stay? Thank you (and your Mom) so much for trying to do the right thing and find that cutie pie a place to stay! Good luck!
Thanks!--I'll have her call the Guilford shelter. And yes, she's temporarily keeping the dog in the garage and/or inside the house, and is also feeding her. A neighbor is helping out too. She couldn't bear to turn her away in the cold. I couldn't have either. :-(

hehe.. thank you!

There's a little animal rescue off of Guilford College Rd, by the Quaker Square Shopping plaza.
Here's their website: http://www.arfpnc.com/
They might be more willing to accept a "pit bull" puppy. If we didn't already have a crazy house of animals, we'd love a playmate for our Pit, but until we get a fence, she's on her own.
