More job drama

The owner of the company called me this morning and asked if I could come in this afternoon to discuss a possible job offer. So off I went thinking it would be something to do with my current position, but training and or supervising more people since they hired a 2nd person to do my job.

Oh no. Instead he offers me my old position of meeting clients and being a representative. Funny thing is that this time around it pays $10K less than what I was making 8 months ago.

He told me to take a few days to think about it, which I am. I'm really freaked out that he'll do the same thing to me and demote me an month into the position. I'm also super worried that he'll pull me from the position when he finds out I'm pregnant.

So when I talk to him about it again on Wednesday, I'm going to ask why the pay difference, and if I'll still be getting a gas card to cover my mileage. I don't know if I should tell him I'm pregnant now and see if that changes things, or wait until I'm farther along and spring it on him. I'd hate to be 4 or 5 months along and be out of a job. WWYD?

Re: More job drama

  • Wait, I'm confused.

He's offering you a position that pays $10k less than what you're making now?

I would not tell this man you're pregnant. Not yet, at least.

Any chance he's not offering you the position, he's basically telling you that you're being placed in that position?

No, sorry. $10K less than when I was doing the job for a month 8 months ago. $5K more than what I'm making now. I don't know why he'd be trying to get me out of my current position because all I've gotten are rave reviews. I'm quick, clear, concise. And the woman that is going to be doing my job as well knows less than I knew about disability when I started. It doesn't make sense to me to replace someone who is great at their job with a newbie that knows very little. Plus, there is definitely enough of my work for two of us. So I just don't know.

  • I agree, don't tell him your pregnant just yet.  Is there any chance he found out your pregnant, that's why they hired another person and keeps coming up with these new "jobs" for you?

No way, I barely talk to the people in the office and haven't seen them in probably 6 months before the office Christmas party last week.

  • It all sounds really weird.  Did he say you still have your job if you don't take that one?

This is what I am wondering.

I wonder if there is a way to find this out w/o straight out asking...because this guy sounds like a giant douchecanoe and I don't trust him...

I'm definitely going to ask him if things don't work out, can I go back to my current position. It is all very weird.

... at the same rate of pay.
  • That's very weird. I don't trust the guy either.

  • I would start documenting each and every encounter with this man.  And get everything in writing.  I still would not tell him you are pregnant.
