Help me with decor!

So we've been living in our house for over 2 years now and we haven't gotten around to fully decorating our bedroom yet. We've painted the walls, and I just bought two mirrors from Hobby Lobby last week, but that's it. We're still looking for dark/black furniture, but need help with the curtains and a rug. The colors are blue/gray, black, and white, though we want to add a pop of color somewhere. We tried green curtains, which didn't work at all, and what's up now is a gray striped curtain that kind of clashes too. I think we're going to try white next, maybe with a pop of color? What do you guys think? The room is pretty small, and we have a Queen-size bed.

Here's the wall color and one of the new mirrors, along with our current white sheer that isn't long enough.

Here's the other window with the striped gray curtain.

Any ideas for furniture, rugs, etc. are greatly appreciated!  Thanks ladies!

Re: Help me with decor!

  • What shade of green did you try? The first pop color I thought of was an apple green. The second color I thought of was a bright, true red. As far as furniture, a friend has somed great black pieces from Pottery Barn. I'm posting from my phone so I can't PIP at the moment.

  • I like the idea of apple green.

My first inclination is to do a white grommet-top sailcloth for the curtains and a rug like this

It was a little bit darker than apple green but not as dark as a sage. I still like the idea of a little bit of green, but full-on green was a bit much for the room. I'll search the PB website to see what they have in furniture.

Love the rug! Where's it from? I'm hoping DH doesn't think it's too girly.

    ETA: Found it at Target!

  • Bwha. Like you had to ask! There's a few other new Target rugs I love, but most are too beige/tan for my decor.

I should've known, you're right. So now you've really done it mames. DH loved the rug and an order is now placed. Yay for free shipping! I can't wait to see how this all comes together.

PRESSURE!  Take a pic when you get it in the room!

  • I love the rug Mamie picked out!  I can't tell if the dark colored blossoms in the rug are chocolate brown or charcoal gray, but would go with floor length velvet panels in that color.  It would give the room a really restfull feel.  Then, instead of a pop of bright color, I would go with sparkly silver.  Think mercury glass candle sticks and maybe even silver sequin accent pillows on the bed.  (I'm picturing rooms designed by Candace Olsen of the HGTV show "Devine Design".)  Your room is very pretty!
