New Year's resolutions?

Anyone have any this year? I know they are kind of silly and usually I don't stick to them, but here's mine:

Join Weight Watchers again. Mike wants to lose 33 pounds by his 33rd birthday in April, I want to lose the last 15 of baby weight.

Go to the gym in the mornings at least 3x a week. This one will be hard as Owen still isn't sleeping great. But I should just drag my dead behind out of bed after he wakes up to eat at 5. That seems early. Yikes. But I need to go. Working out always makes me feel better and helps with stress, but I just get lazy about it and getting re-started is the hardest part.

We're doing our annual no spending money on dining out/carryout in January plan. This will be tougher than ever this year with two kids. Some days all I can muster is to pick up the phone to order a 'za.

I want to renew my commitment to meal planning and couponing/sale matching at the grocery. Our bill keeps getting bigger and bigger because I'm not staying on top of this like I used to.

I want to find a babysitter that's not our family. Someone we can pay to come to our house, as we either have to take the kids to my in-laws which is always a 30 minute trek out of the way, or get my parents to come and then they spend the night which just means I have to find a place for them to sleep and get the house superclean beforehand, which isn't always something I want to do. Mike and I need more time as a couple. This one leads to the next one...

Take the kids to church more regularly. Hopefully we can meet more families there and find some nice teenage girls who would be good sitters.

Re: New Year's resolutions?

  • I never make these, but I'll give one a try.  My resolution will be to get better about letting my stuff pile up on the desk.  I know it drives the H crazy, so I should probably stop doing it all the time.

  • -Join WW. I did really well on it last time, I just need to stick with it.

-Get out and meet people. Maybe bite the bullet and go to a MeetUp or 2.

-Save money and MOVE. Preferably to a 3 bedroom place so we can have a real spare bedroom for when people visit. Like maybe some of you guys....?

  • Get back into running (ok, let's be honest about this, jogging) after having the kid and do another half marathon.
    image
  • Finally figure out WTF I want to do with my life. I'm tired of dead-end temp jobs. And I'm striking out here on my own. So instead of just taking whatever, I'm going to get my resume into the hands of some perm recruiters instead of just temp and stop putting myself down and thinking of myself as barely more qualified than someone with a HS degree.

    Thanks, therapist!

  • quit smoking (again).  yeah, I'm an effing idiot.  I only have time for a few a day, but it kills me that Jack's getting nicotine in his milk, even if it's small amounts.

I should also see the absolute end to my CC debt in 2011.  That is exciting.  I held up 2010 resolution to not use a CC all year.

    image
  • Go back to the gym regularly.

Go out on dates with F.  I'm going to set a goal of once a month.

Save more money.  I have some big monthly obligations coming off the books soon (car payment and student loans), and our daycare bill will go down in February when Ian moves into the toddlers room.  I need a plan for where that money will go.

Be more selfish.  I need to do more things for myself, and am not good about asking for people's help in freeing up my time.

  • Continue running, leading up to running in the OKC Memorial marathon relay or half in May. Run half in the fall.

No fast food for entire month of January. I realized today that with my long commute and two jobs, I'm grabbing fast food something like 5 times a week. Bad on the health and the wallet.

Go vegetarian at least one day a week.

Read at least 25 new or new-to-me books in 2011. I used to be a HUGE reader, but somehow I've stopped. I still read some, but it's mostly re-reads of my favorites.

Network more so I can land a job with the library system I want. I'm pretty awful at promoting myself.

  • Continue to improve my relationship with my H and depend on him for more.  I'm not wording this right, but I need to let him in more.

Kick ass at work and be leading projects with other engineers start to finish by the end of 2011.

And for fun, rebuild our fence so I can get a dog.  Maybe.  I haven't decided if I want one or not.

  • Be a better mom and wife.
I want to make sure my couch potato-ness doesn't rub off on Alex. So I want to join more play groups and get his social skillz rolling in high gear.
Learn to juggle life with 2 kids.
Keep up with myself physically and emotionally.
    Keep the house clean.
    Have dinner ready.

Basically, I want to go retro housewife and do it well.

ETA: And if that means developing a drinking problem, so be it. :P

  • I want to be better at managing our money. Well, maybe managing isn't the right word, better at tracking our spending. Feel free to offer tips.

I also want to do more "fun" things with T. We get into these ruts and I complain that we never "do" anything, time to take the bull by the horns.

  • Stay on Weight Watchers the entire year. I've lost 25 pounds in my first session and can't believe how much better I'm already feeling. Stop feeling like I have to take care of people. Wait...that's bull. I'm a nurtured dammit. That's about it. I'm pretty happy with how I've been living my life so, go me. Onward and upward and what not. Oh, and volunteer. I've been in touch with our local Humane Society. Volunteer orientation is every Wednesday and Sunday!

  • Buy a house.  I'm sick of this house hunting shiit.

    Be more organized

    Write a will

Implement a nether-region hair management system.  Currently, it's like I live in medieval times.

    Exercise more often.

  • - Pare down clothes and "stuff". We have way too much junk, and I hate the house feeling so cluttered.

    - Organize what we do have and keep it organized.

    - Have more sex. We aren't having enough, mostly my fault since night waking and breastfeeding has killed the libido.

    - Eat more greens.

  • Holy crap Christin!! 25 pounds is freaking awesome! Way to go, lady.

I always make tons of New years resolutions, a lot of them very over the top. I'm an eternal optimist.

I always have a "lose 10 pounds" goal that I never follow through on. So this year I think I'm going to come up with some more specific goals like "Work out at least 8 times per month" or something.

Take more initiative at work. I've already been doing this resolution for the last month or so. I think my boss has been impressed, so I want to keep it up.

    Call my family more.

Hopefully sell the condo and buy a house

Pay off my line of credit

Be kinder to people and more cheerful/optimistic in general.

  • I have another one. I am terrible about letting clean laundry build up in a basket and I basically live like pull things out of clean basket, get dressed, throw in dirty basket. Sometimes if I do a small load, I'll fold and put stuff away, but after awhile, the majority of my clothes are out of the drawers. Every few months I get fed up, wash everything whether it needs it or not, and reorganize. I always feel so much better when everything is properly put away and I realize when it's all done that it's really not that bad to put things away.

So I'm going to make an effort to just put laundry away like a normal person and be less of a slob in general. I've also found I've felt so much more motivated and productive these past couple of weeks because I cleaned the hell out of my apt for my friend's visit last weekend, then I made an effort to keep it that way (company ready) knowing Bethie was coming over this past weekend and it's been really cool to know every day that I don't have a cluttered living room or bedroom or kitchen to deal with. When I sit down and watch TV, I truly have nothing else to do. I want to keep that feeling going.

  • Cali, I can't make a sassy retort back to you, on account of my New Year's resolution.

Moo, I could say all of what you just said pretty much word for word. I live out of laundry baskets too! And do the "get fed up, wash everything, get sh*t put away" thing every few months too. I am right in the middle of a wash everything spell that started this weekend. I think over the Christmas holidays I'm going to take a day or two to do some research and figure out a system that will work for me so I don't keep reverting to Clean basket/dirty basket living. Let me know if you figure out a magical way of doing it that works.

Same with keeping things tidy. Heith does a great job of cleaning, but not organizing. I need to get some areas more organized and keep them that way.

  • I have no resolutions. I'm perfect.
  • I would like to keep my house clean, even on weeks when I have Connor. I'm good when I'm on my own, but when I he's around, everything goes to hell. I'd also like to cook at home more.

I WILL run the OKC Memorial half this spring (Okla, do you want a copy of the training schedule that runners world uses?).

I also want a new job (and I think I've got that lined up, it's just taking a while to finalize because of the holidays). Several things have come up lately that have really made me lose faith in my organization and management and I hate how much this has been affecting my mood on a daily basis.

  • - get back to the gym.  First trimester is over, time to get active again so i'm not a blob of blob by the tme baby arrives.  It's that much more work to get back ins hape

    -have more sex.

-go on dates with my husband AT LEAST once per month, which will probably help the above resolution

-ramp up my motivation in sales

    image
  • Like others, I need to have more husband time and definitely more sex. BFing is just killing my drive.

I want to whip my body back in to shape. I weigh less than I did when I got pregnant, but there is a whole lot of flab and jiggle that wasn't there before.

I want to forgive my mom and be done with any more family drama.

    Ramp up my freelance business

Start looking into getting my masters and moving more into teaching.

  • Yes. I should add the sex to the list. I'm terrible at it these days.
