Poll: Will your DH/SO use Coupons?

I am curious because Marcos is pretty anti-coupon, which totally aggrivates me!

We always set a $$ amount for xmas shopping for each other (this year it is smaller!). So, I always end up getting less stuff because I am such a bargain shopper!   He would spend $50 on a sweater that I could get for $20!

So, if your DH/SO will use coupons, how did you bring them to the other side?

I am thinking of this because I just got a 30% off Old Navy and a 30% off Coach Outlet.

Re: Poll: Will your DH/SO use Coupons?

  • DH hates using coupons 'face to face' so if he has to hand a coupon to someone he won't do it. I'm not sure why. That being said, the man can go crazy online if I give him a list of online coupons and discount codes.

    Try starting that way :)

  • DH will definitely use coupons and promo codes to get a better deal but it is more of an "if he remembers" for him. i think the fact that he does a lot of shopping online and it's easy enough to google a promo code helps too, he's a lot more likely to leave a coupon on the counter. like me, DH also appreciates getting a better deal so he has no reason to be anti-coupon.

  • Yep, he will use coupons. I didn't have to do any coaxing... he doesn't mind using them at all.  I don't get why anyone would be anti-coupon?!  Why would you want to spend more on something?  Weird.
  • Oh hell yeah.  Never had to coax him.  This kinda reminds me of that episode of J&K Plus 8 where she went batsh!t crazy on him because he didn't use a coupon.  She actually made him go back to the store.

  • Well marcos thinks its like a form of welfare or something!!  LOL!  He loves when I save and use coupons.  I Am trying to get him to, and will give him 2 coupons he can use tonight.

He also will not use gift cards/certificates of any kind.  He also hates using his debit/credit card, always wants cash. Maybe he is just old skool, I don't know.

  • He won't use gc's or debit/cc's?  Amanda, that's not old skool, that's odd!  LOL!

  • ok yeah the coupon thing I was thinking eh, some people are like that. But gift cards/gift certificates? DUMBA$$ - someone already paid the store for that, you're not "using or abusing them" you are wasting someone else's money!!!!!!!!!!

    ;-)

That said - DH loves coupon shopping. He's so excited at how much I can save us by clipping coupons every week and he is so proud to show me his grocery receipt when he gets home to show me how many things were on sale and how much more saved!!!

  • He's the first one to go through the BJs coupon book before our shopping trips. But, otherwise, he doesn't go looking for coupons. If he has one (ie, if I give him one) he will use it though.

  • Vid was a coupon virgin when we met, whereas I was brought up by one of the best bargain hunters in the country!  He still thinks I'm nuts because I sign up for every rewards card/email/etc. there is but then when I get things cheap he's always "How did you do that?!"  He's not anti-coupon per se, but he won't think to use them unless I tell him to.  So if I ask him to get something @ the store, I make sure to have him check through my coupon folder before he goes.  Really, he doesn't buy anything "on his own" (as in, he wouldn't buy a pair of shoes unless his magically disappeared off his feet) because he knows most of the time I'd know of a way to get it cheaper.
