I am so excited to visit my parents and siblings in Texas for New Years! It's the first time since my wedding that we'll all be together, and it may be the last time for a few years (my baby sister leaves for basic training in February, and my other sister continues on tour the rest of the year). I can't wait to fit in all that family time while Huz and I are there.
It's made me think of funny stories from when we were little. Like when my sister was a toddler and thought a tomato was an apple and took a big bite out of it- the look on her face was priceless! Or when my mom had a bunch of potatoes on the counter in a brown paper bag (she was going to use them in that night's dinner) and my little brother accidently grabbed the wrong brown sack thinking it was his school lunch. He opened up that sack full of potatoes at lunch time and said he was really confused. lol
My sisters used to color on the walls in their room when they were around 5- but they would only color where their bunk bed frame and mattress hid it. When we moved out of that house, there were drawings all over the area the bed was! My parents were soooo mad that they had to repaint the room!
My cousins and sisters and I had a "fashion show" for our parents after dinner every Thanksgiving and Christmas for as long as I can remember until we were about 12. Then one year, when we were around 18, we did one final one. It was too funny! We pretended we were putting on the Grammy Awards and went all out with costumes and singing. We were way too old to be doing it, but it was a lot of fun, and made some great memories and pictures.
So, please don't let me be the only sentimental, nostalgic sap here. Reminisce with me!
Re: funny/cute childhood and family stories go here
When my little brother (now getting his PhD at USC) was around 4, we spent an evening decorating Christmas cookies as a family ... and the little guy threw up for the very first time. As my dad was carrying him to bed, he said, "Poor guy, you tossed your cookies." My brother burst into tears and said, "No, Dad ... I gave my cookies to mommy!"

Just this past Sunday, DSS, DH and I were out to dinner when DSS heaved a massive, meloncholy sigh.
"I wish Dan was younger," he said. (Dan is my father.)
"Why?" I asked.
"Because then he'd live longer," DSS replied, looking ever so sad as he contemplated my 50-something father's mortality.
I assured him that Dad has a few good years left in him. My dad's birthday was the next day, and we both had a good chuckle over it.
Oh my gosh, this totally brought back memories. For some reason my siblings and cousins were obsessed with making haunted houses. We had this huge playroom and it was L shaped. I remember after just about every holiday we would go out there and create a "ride" using a rolling office chair and then we would decorate it and dress up. Then we would make all of the adults take a ride in the chair and try to scare them. It was ridiculous, but soooooo much fun!!
