melted crayon all over my floor :(

so i never post over here, but i desperately need some help (or a shoulder to cry on).  i'm making crayons for my kiddos at school and as i pulled the tray out of the oven to cool, it tipped and tons of hot melted crayon poured out all over my gorgeous tile floor (call me captain clumsy).  it is also on my wooden cabinets and my formica counter top.  aside from chipping away at it with a spoon, any suggestion on how to get it off so my DH doesn't have a heart attack when he gets home?

  • Use a paper towel and iron over it. Works for cloth too!
  • I think that I read somewhere that you could use hair spray. I think I would heat it up with a blow dryer first, then spray it and wipe it up.

    I've never heard of this.

Do the iron/paper bag trick-but this is mainly if the wax is on fabric.?

You might be able to take a plastic spatula and lift huge pieces off the floor, and it would be faster on the cabinets as well.

I would try using a plastic spatula on it too. ?

  • You may be able to get the wax up, but still see the color as a stain.  I don't know if this works on crayons, but I once had red candle wax spill melted on a light beige carpet.  I thought there was no way to get out the red after I got the actual wax off.  I found candle wax remover at Tom Thumb/Randall's and It got out the stain also--even after the hot red wax stained it.  You might try this and see.  Probably the stain will have to come off of the cabinet and then be followed up with some stain to match the original color.
