Dh has been wanting a PS3 since they came out. I have said no, we have too much other stuff that we need to pay off first, plus we have a Wii and a PS2. Well now I am actually considering buying him one for Christmas.
We usually dont buy for eachother for Christmas. We do usually take a trip or do a nice dinner or a hockey game or something. We decided against doing anything this year so we can put $ towards our kitchen remodel. We figure we have about $600 that needs to go into the kitchen before its finished. About $200 in our master bath and a little extra here and there so we can put the house on the market in the spring. Then we will likely move in the summer.
Oh yeah, and we have a baby coming in June.
So what do you think? PS3s are $300 at Walmart but you get a $100 gift card back at the purchase.

Re: WDYT? DH and christmas.
Well, I would get it if it were in the budget. Considering my hubby budget was only $75-100 and I already went over that this year, obviously I wouldn't buy it.
If you didn't already have two gaming systems, I'd say consider it. But with all the expenses you've got coming, I'd probably pass The money back still doesn't make up for the $200 you'd spend out of pocket. That's not chump change.
My vote is sorry hon, no.
My thoughts are also, if you don't exchange gifts - as happy as he may be to receive the PS3, would it make him feel bad that he didn't get you anything?
I know I was crushed when an old boyfriend bought me a computer for Christmas, which made my gifts to him seem like crap. I was so upset that his gift trumped mine that I wasn't able to fully enjoy my computer.
And I agree, with a baby on the way, and 2 game systems already... it's the thought that counts, but don't act on it.
My Wedding Bio! Not updated in a LONG time!
It has a Blu-Ray player in it... that was the main draw for us (but we didn't end up buying it, it was a gift from hubby's best friend) and can stream Netflix in high def... just something to think about it... We sold our PS2 after getting the PS3 and still have our Wii... I think the Wii and PS3 are totally different gaming systems... so having one doesn't mean you can do everythin gthat the other does...
but that being said, I would only do it if you have the money to do it... wait utnil you move otherwise and make it your homecoming gift or something along those lines...
I agree with the other ladies especially about him feeling bad about not buying you anything for Christmas but I also wanted to throw out there that if YH wants the PS3 why doesn't he sell one or both of the other systems in order to get this one? Would he use all 3?
My hubby wanted a Bluray player this year. So I went out and bought him a PS3 for his birthday instead. I got it for about $212 at Sam's (last one they had) and that was only slightly more than the Bluray he wanted. Justifying it was easy for me even though we already have a Wii and a PS2.
Also, as a bonus, if your tv doesn't have wifi, you can use a PS3 to stream Netflix and Hulu Plus, if you subscribe to either. Our tv has wifi already so it wasn't a deal breaker for me, but it's a plus if you don't.
Wow. Sorry that's so manic. I have vacation on the mind. (5 more hours!)
Bottom line: Buy it. It's a multipurpose device and sounds like it would fit in your budget.
I may be in the minority of this :-) We were never allowed to have gaming systems growing up and it wasn't until my brothers had jobs that they purchased their first PS1. I detested the "rule" at the time, but now am a big fan. I won't allow them in the house. Yes, I'm going to be the mean parent.
With that said, if you already have two, is it necessary to have three? I'm going to bet that once your little kiddo arrives there won't be much time to play. :-) If you really, really, really want it then I would suggest selling the other ones.
My kids are going to hate me :-)
Thanks for setting my head on straight ladies. I like the Wii, so we will not be getting rid of that. And we can stream Netflix through that. We dont have a high def TV (will eventually) so BlueRay has no appeal to me right now.
Must be the pregnancy hormones making me delusional.
I bought DH one two years ago. He had a PS2 already, but we gave it to my sister. I would say if you could sell the PS2.
Ours doubles as our blu ray player.. And sadly, kiddo and all DH plays it. There are days I would like to throw it out the window,
But oh well. It's what he wanted.
Those were also the days where we bought big gifts for each other. I got my Nikon D80 that year with 50 mm fixed lens. SOOOOO, in hind sight I got off with the cheaper gift that year
