Palin & McCain w/ Brian Williams
Did you all see it on the Today Show this morning? Is this a teaser for a larger interview on Nightly News? What were your impressions if you did catch it?
It seemed like a daddy-daughter interview to me. And I hate to say it because I really want to give her the benfit of the doubt, but when she opens her mouth I just hear "blah blah blah talking points blah blah blah". When you stumble over "maverick" or "reform" you know the person doesn't really feel it. It was like I could see the sun setting behind them...
Re: Palin & McCain w/ Brian Williams
I saw only a little bit of it, but I agree with your assessment generally. Williams asked her about the team's repeated contention that Obama will sit down with foreign leaders "without preconditions" and asked what she thought necessary "preconditions" should be. She simply didn't answer the question. She just repeated talking points about negotiating with dictators who want to harm America or her allies. It wasn't even effective evasion - it was just stream of consciousness talking points.
She repudiated the idea of "sitting down and talking about differences" as though it was equivalent to handing over the keys to our government.

The original interview.

I didn't actually see the part shown on Nightly News. I'll just wait until I can see the whole thing online. But I did see Brian Williams & Chuckie T on Hardball last night and Williams on Morning Joe this morning.
What struck me this morning was that Brian Williams said the campaign insisted that Palin be interviewed with McCain. He was only given 10 minutes to speak to her without McCain next to her. NBC waited 55 days to interview Palin, and she gave them 10 effing minutes. That is really telling.
Also, Williams and Chuckie T said that there was NO chemistry between the two of them. Hmmm.
You mean, "rest them assured over" wasn't crystal clear?
I'm watching now, and that's all I've heard her say, really. Plus McCain saying that being so far down is right where he wants to be.
This is what stuck out to me from the Today show too. Brian Williams and NBC at large are pissed about not getting their hands on Palin. Meredith nailed Nicole Wallace for it a few weeks ago, and since then they've been thrown this little bone and three questions on the trail about special needs families.
I realize NBC is exactly who MPC is talking about when they say the "liberal eastern media elites", but I'm not sure the bulk of the country sees them that way. This cannot be a good move for them.
You know, I thought about that. I'd say that MSNBC is definitely lefty leaning. (Although in fairness, they have WAY more conservative contributors than Fox and they treat them respectfully. Pat Buchanan is on all the time. Peggy Noonan appears regularly on Morning Joe. McCain's campaign people are on all the time, and while Chris Matthews kind of beat up on Nancy Puh-foot-er yesterday, McCain's people are generally treated well.)
But Brian Williams is an excellent journalist. I have watched him a lot, and I think he's incredibly fair. My mom is moderate and my stepdad is pretty hardcore Republican, and they both watch him everyday and love him. This whole "liberal media" hype is absolutely not a valid reason to snub Brian Williams.
Plus, even if he is some kind of loony leftist pinko commie journalist, Palin should be able to face him. If she's ready to deal with Russia and Iran and North Korea if necessary, then surely she can handle an hour with Brian Williams.
