Ob/Gyn and primary doctor?

I fully realize this is probably a stupid question.

Can you have an ob/gyn for annual physicals and a primary doctor for everything else?  Will the ob/gyn do blood tests like cholesterol and whatever else they check for or do you have to go to the primary doctor for those things?

I love the doctor I go to now but I really, really don't want a man for paps and whatnot.

Re: Ob/Gyn and primary doctor?

  • That's how I do it and yes they have done thyroid, cholesterol and such test during my annual with the OBGYN.

  • Yep, that's what I do.  Gyn is for annuals and anything that's of interest to them (thyroid, cholesterol, any pre-ttc stuff we'll eventually want to do), GP is for everything else.
  • oh good.  thanks.

  • yes, you can have both. i'm always wondering if i'm a freak because i ONLY see my OB/Gyn because i never get sick. whenever you have to fill out a medical form and they ask who your doctor is, i can't even recall the name of any that work at my clinic because i never go there.
