The boss's assistant keeps saying "SanFran..."

...and it's driving me nuts!  Imagine that she's also doing it with a nasally, Boston accent and it's enough to make me want to throttle her.

Just so you don't think I'm totally crazy, she's also just really loud and inappropriate on the phone in general and I can hear her even if I close my office door so my aggravation has been accumulating over time Super Angry

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Re: The boss's assistant keeps saying "SanFran..."

  • I can sympathize.
  • Ohhhh - that's REALLY annoying.  I'm so sorry.
  • Ew.  Super annoying.

I also can't stand it when people call our state "Cali" but seeing as I've heard some Californians do that, I guess it's not as bad.  Nobody here says San Fran, though!

  • It's really common to hear people from the Midwest and Canada call SF San Fran. It actually doesn't bother me.
  • lol If you come to Fresno you'll hear people call it "Frisco." I use to call San Francisco "Frisco" when I was teenager now I think it's dumb.

  • All of our Boston friends call it San Fran. I don't have the heart to correct them. :)
  • Ew,

I also ditto the "Cali" thing. Yuck.

  • look at the bright side .. she's not calling it "frisco" *shudder*

even my midwestern siblings know to call San Francisco either SF or 'the City' or even better 'home' Stick out tongue

there's a 'burb north of dallas called Frisco, which I was talking about to a friend of mine who had moved up there (she was visiting me and we were walking in the city) and some random woman turned around and said: "you're in SAN FRANCISCO, not frisco." And I said: "we're talking about Frisco, Tx nosy!"

I had no idea it would hit a nerve.

sanfran grates on my ears like panties. shudder.

I type cali rather than ca because "ca" look like a typo to me.

Yeah, I honestly think ppl need to lighten up about this stuff. How is a non-local going to know local lingo and why should they? We don't know local lingo about others places because we don't live there and that doesn't make us stupid. I think it makes ppl from the Bay Area seem snobby.

I have learned to do Calif to shorten CA on my other board because CA also means Canada.

I never said/implied that she was stupid for not knowing better (nor did anyone else, I think).  It just annoys me and I was venting about it, just like we all vent about any number of things on the board.

  • On the flip side, T gets really irritated when people refer to Boston as Beantown. :)

That doesn't bug me, for some reason.  Then again, I hardly ever hear anyone refer to it that way.  Do New Yorkers get annoyed by "the Big Apple?"

Yep, that's pretty annoying too :)  I was born and raised in Boston and can gladly say that I don't have a trace of the Boston accent.

I know I wasn't specifically referring to you. I don't think you'd jump all over a tourist like some people do.
