Thoughts?

I saw this in the hot topics thinger, and it kind of made me *** my head to one side:

http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/46729999.aspx

The gist is that she had plans to go out with her girlfriends, but then her husband got sick with a cold/flu. She is asking if people think she should stay home with him or go out with friends as planned.

I don't know about anyone else, but under most circumstances this would be a no brainer for me. Go out with your friends, man! I might call to see how he's doing, come home a little earlier, or ask if he wanted me to pick him up anything. But between careers and people having kids, I don't get a ton of time with my girlfriends these days. Plus I like being left the eff alone when I'm sick.

Obviously the situation changes if kids are involved, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.

Am I a cold hearted vagwarbler?

Re: Thoughts?

  • The thought to stay home wouldn't even cross my mind.  My H doesn't need me sitting at his bedside, dabbing his forehead with a washcloth over a cold.  He normally doesn't want me anywhere near him when he's sick.

  • Now, I'm admittedly in the "leave me the hell alone when I'm sick" camp, but what good are you doing by being home and missing plans?  I don't get it.  I would go, Brett would go.  It's a cold.

  • In the words of the great Paula Abdul, you're a c-c-c-c-old hearted snake.

My husby wants me as far away as possible when he's sick. I'd go out.

  • absolutely go out. he's a grown man for pete's sake! he's her husband, not her child. he doesn't need a nursemaid.

  • It wouldn't even occur to me to stay home with him.  I know that when I'm sick, I just want to be left alone.  My H is the same.

  • Good to know I'm not the only jerk wife up in here. Outside of special circumstances, it wouldn't even occur to me to consider staying home.
  • I would definitely be going. I'll take it one step further and say I'd still be going even with a kid in the picture.

  • That poll is just bizarre to me. I mean, I DO get to spend a lot of time with my friends and I still find it super weird. I don't want to sit around with my whiny sick husband all night.

  • I would stay home but only because I can't imagine anything less fun than going to a club/bar.  I would rather listen to my H complain and cough.  That's how much I hate bars.
