Fashion Related: Disappointed in this season's offerings

I am having difficulty finding cute Fall/Winter clothing this year.  I am pretty conservative about what I'll spend on individual pieces, and have usually had a lot of luck with Ann Taylor Loft.  But this season the clothes aren't doing anything for me.  I present to you the following evidence:  Is this unattractive, or is it just me?

  • its a bad color Ick!

I've had a lot of luck at new york and company - but they're stuff moves fast. I also like H&M.

  • I am not a fan of Ann Taylor Loft to begin. I much prefer J. Crew and even H&M.  J. Crew is more expensive than I'd rather pay, but between sales and coupons I normally make out okay-- the clothes there are simply much more representative of my personal style. I even use their lookbooks to spur styling ideas for things I already have ih my closet (and not necessarily J. Crew items).

H&M's stock varies based on location.

    The H&M by Bloomingdales? Yes

    The H&M by Macy's?  Ick!

I'm a big fan of Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft, but you kind of have to wade through some less than fabulous stuff sometimes.  As my buying teacher remarked, 'Man, when they get it right, they really get it right!'

Not crazy about the shirt, but I will warn you ruffles are going to be even bigger come spring.  They were all over the runways.

  • I probably need to expand my horizons and try some different places.  I used to do well at Gap also, but lately not so much.

This is so true. I kind of like the Soho location, I've had good luck there in the past.

My husband laughed at me for going shopping at H&M while I was in Edinburgh. Hello! They have completely different merchandise than the US stores!

And at the Schipol airport in Amsterdam there is an entire H&M dedicated to accessories! I could write a book on the H&Ms of the world...

"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • When is H&M going to make their way out to my part of the country??  My SIL took me last year when I was in Cleveland and I fell in love!  I got so many compliments on the stuff I got from there (bonus that no one at work could "copy me" since there isn't one here!)  I even got compliments on the baby clothes for my kiddo.

I agree about bad fashion offerings.  When I'm flat broke, everything is sooo cute!  When I have a couple of bucks to spend - yucko!

Anything you can achieve through hard work, you could also just buy.
  • Ruffles seem to be everywhere right now, so that is a Yes in ATL's favor. At the same time, I don't care for the execution and the pattern is awful (although, to be fair, I'm a girl that really doesn't do patterns nor do I find them all that flattering on me).

I used to work at Ann Taylor and they can sometimes have great pieces and suiting collections, but lately I think they have been a little blah. I think J Crew is consistently awesome (and consistently over priced!!! Ouch!)
