Re: my christmas menu
holy sh!t that is a crazy menu for 30 people!! if i were you, i'd scrap the turkey, stuffing, and gravy. it looks like you'll have more than enough food!
we're having prime rib, PW's creamy mashed potatoes, green beans with shallots & lemon, probably some bread and cheese instead of regular apps because it's just us and i'm lazy like that
we'll probably eat at like 4ish . . . my family usually eats at 2ish and i think that is too early.
i'm making Chocolate Trifle for dessert
good luck erica!
Ahhhhh, you were in Fl! That's why you didn't see my turkey post. I am also a turkey pro now! That recipe was freakin' awesome!
And you're running yourself into the ground. Follow Cheeky's advice Don't go crazy! Sometimes less is more.
my mashed will be pw too
that is so nice its just the 2 of you!
my friggan family always has hoildays between 1-2 so that is what i have to do. i think its too early as well.
we usually do ham and pork roast or prime rib, but got so many requests for the turkey! lol. so funny.
I have no idea what we are having and I don't care! For the first time EVER we are not responsible for the dinner!! Yay! Every single year we drive all over creation and coordinate these crazy schedules to make sure we see everyone and then we are expected to have a gourmet meal on the table (even if we are at other people's houses, everyone just expects DH to cook the meal). I finally put my foot down this year and said I would provide the house to gather in, but we were NOT doing the dinner. So everyone is bringing already prepared stuff to just warm up. Huge stress reliever for me!
OH MY WORD!!!!! Don't kill yourself!!!
We're going to a friend's house and all I have to make is mashed potatoes and two apps. Its a Christmas Miracle! Of course I'm making a huge meal for Wes's bday/christmas eve tomorrow but still!
i am a little sad to not see my family but i really am so excited for it to be just us on christmas!!
your family sounds exactly like mine - too early, too much food & soooo much work! sounds like your thanksgiving turkey was too good
last year we picked up most of the apps and sides from stew leonard's and it made for a much merrier christmas for all of us.
@ked - good for you for putting your foot down!! wth is wrong with people?! i am expecting some good ol' catholic guilt trips about not going to MA for the holiday but this is the first christmas i'm taking for myself in 34 years so they can deal!
Yikes, Erica! That is a lot of people and a crazy amount of food.
We are having:
antipasto
fried artichoke hearts
pasta with bolognese sauce
beef tenderloin
mashed potatoes
asparagus
corn
stuffing
Dessert! Chocolate Mousse cake, chocolate chip cheesecake, apple pie and lots and lots of homemade cookies
Merry Christmas!!!! Hope you had fun in FL.
We have the wedding soup on Thanksgiving but do the pasta bolognese on Christmas instead of soup. I can't believe you have both. Does your family starve themselves for a week before coming to your house? Ha ha. Sounds like my family when I was a kid. We have since cut way back because no-one is ever hungry enough to eat it all.
Holy crap Erica that is a ton of food! Thankgod you have help with Chris and your mom and dad. I would be having a panic attack if it were me.
We are having this for Christmas Eve:
Shrimp cocktail (none for me thanks!)
Scallops wrapped in bacon
snail salad
baccala salad
antipasto
grilled calamari salad
lobster ravioli in a light pink vodka sauce
Italian bread with roasted garlic
There that is 7 fishes if you count anchovies on the antipasto!
Christmas day my mom is doing a turkey with all the fixings.
