Christmas Lunch/Dinner

This will be our first Christmas as a married couple and everyone is coming to our home this year.  Does anyone have any original ideas for a ham, instead of the traditional way we usually have it?

Re: Christmas Lunch/Dinner

  • I'm not a big ham person so when we have holidays at our house, I usually do turkey.  However, I've heard that just pouring a coke over a ham before cooking it (or maybe halfway through) is really good and easy.  You might google that for some ideas.

What other dishes are you making?  How many people are coming?  (My mom's side of the family is coming next week so I'm looking for ideas.)

  • Nice to meet you Jess.O......I'm not a huge ham fan either; however, my husband feels since we had so much turkey for Thanksgiving that ham is a good choice.  We should be having approximately 15 people for Christmas I believe.  We will be doing homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots (my father-in-law insists on doing carrots every Holiday, lol), rolls, green bean casserole, etc.  I found a fabulous recipe for candy cane fudge as well as a recipe for sweet cherry ham with pineapple juice.  There is also a fabulous recipe for peppermint-fudge brownie bites I may make as well.  Btw, is that your puppy?  He is adorable!!  We have 2 cats and an Australian Shepard/Bordie Collie mix....... we're pet people if you can't tell, lol.  I'm happy to share any & all recipes that I stumble onto.

  • Nice to meet you, too!  It sounds like you'll have a house full.  Your menu sounds delicious. I think my husband is the one person on earth who doesn't like mint / chocolate mixtures.  Otherwise, I'd be all over your dessert recipes!

Yes, that's my pup...well, not so much of a pup anymore.  He's about 10 (we're not sure b/c he was a pound puppy.)  We've had him for about 7 years and he was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure.  That's been really hard on me but he still seems to feel good so that helps.  We also have a cat, Simon who is actually bigger than Mickey.  They are so funny to watch together...I can't imagine not having pets.

Just saw that you live in RR.  We live in Hutto so we're almost neighbors. Smile

  • Lol......that's hilarious about your husband!!  That's heart wrenching about Mickey, I'm so sorry.  That's wonderful that he still feels good & that he enjoys playing with Simon.  We rescued Cisco from a foster home through Town Lake Animal Shelter in May (he was my birthday present).  He had been through two hip surgeries within 6 weeks time.....all before 10 months old.  Yes, I know what you mean about not being able to imagine not having pets.......our pets are our babies, that's for sure!!

Yes, we are in RR......Hutto is just down the road, isn't it?!  Hopefully after the Holidays, we can relax just a bit, lol!!  Then we will prepare for our belated honeymoon.....a 5 day cruise in April!!
