New Years Plans, what is available in our city?

Dear Ladies,

My husbands birthday is on New Years and it will be our first New years together as a married couple. I wanted to know what is available and fun to do. I heard there are fireworks, what is the scoop on that? I also want to take him to Dinner on New Years night. He is not a big fan of big crowds and not a party animal but I want to do this just right for him. Help me out ladies, what is there to do or any ideas?

  • First Night events are the big thing in town, check out the site at http://www.firstnight.org.  Have fun celebrating!
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Open Table (http://www.opentable.com/promo.aspx?m=7&pid=4) has a New Year's page where all the restaurants that are having special things for New Year's are listed. It's really helpful for seeing what's out there and then just booking your reservation. Have fun!
  • My Husband has the day off, I have no time off and its the last shipping day of the year/month so I'll be at work till maybe 9? maybe 10? and then I'll be at my house, sipping champagne and watching the ball drop on tv.....lameo first married NYE

  • We never really liked going out for New Years. Restaurants always seemed overpriced for that evening, crowds, noise ahhhhh...

A few years ago we started hosting a "black tie" dinner party at our home. We invite three or four other couples and I go all out with decorating, flowers, cocktails, fabulous dinner (standing rib roast, rack of lamb etc.) I know this might sound fussy, but it ends up being a wonderful, quiet, but fun night. It's great for me because the Christmas season is always very busy with musical performances all around, so New Years is a nice time to relax.
