michigan fans need something to cheer about b/c as we all know, they can't say anything good about their football program over the past 6-7 years.

merin - i too think it's a bunch of bs

  • JBS! Yes it is BS, but when are they going to learn? You.can.not.do.that!

Just like the whole Cam Newton deal, I am so sick of hearing about it. His dad took the money. Cam had a stolen laptop in his dorm room that he "claims" didnt know was stolen, yet when the cops show up he throws it out the window. And I just heard that some basketball player has to sit 6 games for taking gifts. ARGH.

I get that they don't have to accept, but the problem is why are people offering deals to them knowing its wrong? Is it b/c the are not the one who will be penalized?

And I'm sorry WTF would you sell your championship ring? I don't get it.

Oh, I hear ya!!    And I really do think the tattoo situation is plain out stupidity.  But as for selling their stuff - though I don't understand why they'd want to do it, I also don't think they should be punished b/c A) It says right in the article that they probably didn't even KNOW they weren't allowed to since it wasn't explained, and B) it's THEIR STUFF.

    WTFE I guess.

    EXACTLY!!

You guys sound so silly right now.  It's totally ok for them to break the NCAA rules because they are Bucks?  riiiight.  If it was Michigan you'd be jumping all over it too so simmer down.

(I will admit I still raz my UT friends about the razors they need for their point shaving but I digress)

I'm surprised that this happened on JT's watch but stranger things have happened.

  • The NCAA infractions are never consistent or fair.  How does Cam Newton get 1 stinking game out and others have been suspended for a season for lying about a lunch or multiple games b/c their jersey was given unknowingly to an agent?

The whole system is what is screwed up regardless of player or team.  The cultures that these players are brought up in is also messed up.

    WTH are you talking about?

I in no way defended what they did. But Merin does have a point. It's there stuff, why can't they sell it? Can they not sell it b/c they are a OSU athelte? Can not they not sell it b/c it was given to them from OSU b/c they went to a Bowl game? So where do you draw the line of what you can and cannot sell?

I've always thought TP was a doo-doo bird, but this just sums it up for me. I was really hoping he wouldn't come back next year.

I dont care who you are or who you play for. If you accept gifts/services you are a F'ng moron b/c you, I and every one else knows its against the rules.

And I am sure JT is none to happy about it. And of course this is ALL they are going to talk about during the bowl game. Like we don't have other issues when it comes to bowl games....say like how we can't win them.

  • OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!

I'm so pissed.  I've always hated Pryor...  so I'm not that shocked at his stupidity, but the other guys...  COME ON!!!!!!!!!  UGH!

At least three of them need to learn that they'll be millionaires in about a year.....  ugh.

And then there is that. So maybe that answers my question as to why they accept gifts.

  • ahhh Timot has explained to me the Cam stuff I didn't know about that but I thought you guys were all up in arms that they were targeting Buckeyes but now I see that while that is the case it's because infractions elsewhere are less harsh...

  • Yeah I heard about this lastnight.  Stupid, stupid, stupid.  I mean #1, You can't make a profit from stuff like that while you're still in school and you cannot get special treatment and free service solely based on your standing as a student athlete (the synchro team at BG had university funding so we had lectures all.the.time about guidelines, ethics, etc. and stipulations because we had funding.)  #2- You'd think you'd be proud of those things.  Those things, which they are just THINGS, represent a lot of pride for Buckeye fans.  One of my friends from high school played for OSU right around the time they started beating the pants off M*chigan every year and for his sister's wedding, one of the gifts he gave her was one of his gold pants necklaces, and it was her favorite gift from the wedding.  Key word being gift, but it's that big of a deal that it was her favorite wedding gift.  Those things have sentimental value and shouldn't just be pawned off for money.

I also agree though that maybe this was a rightful punishment, but Cam Newton should have received far worse than he did as well.  As Matt says, usually when a big rumor and breaking story starts in sports like that and quickly gains momentum and becomes a media storm, it's usually true (ie-Tiger Woods last year) and then it just kind of quietly went away.  Thing is, Newton was then and still is now being paraded around as college football's sweetheart and they don't want to damage their reputation and his, so perhaps that's the reason for the lighter sentence.  But I agree it should be consistent and everyone is held to the same standards and consequences, not all this favoritism and political BS.

But honestly, how dumb can you be?  And to hear that Pryor was one of them and he's supposed to be the team LEADER...that's just gross.  He just kissed any Heisman Trophy hopes for next year goodbye.

  • The suspensions are going to be lifted or at the very least reduced. Truth be told, none of them should be playing in the Sugar Bowl, but that would cost a lot of people a lot of money and we certainly can't have that. Same for Cam. He shouldn't be playing in his bowl and he shouldn't have a Heisman. The NCAA is a corrupt organization, simple as that. It's about cash at the end of the day. Yes it may be dumb that they can't seel their own stuff, but it's in the rules. Bottom line.

The Big Ten is a sacred cow for the NCAA and they rarely punish or investigate matters in certain conferences. They are making an example out of them to show that they are willing to punish.

One last thing, Suz is right, if these were Michigan players, some of you would be acting the same way as the Michigan fans that you find annoying. I think it's hilarious when fans of one team get annoyed with the fans of another team and then they turn around and act the exact same way.
