A new entry for worst christmas gift ever...

I haven't found my camera to take a photo yet but DH's aunt (of the fairy diorama fame) made every single lady in the family a bedazzled "vintage" music box this Christmas.  I like music boxes as much as the next person, but this is beyond fugly... picture hundreds of crystals glued onto every possible surface of a brass music box with a swan on top.

I feel really bad knowing how much time she invested on it - it couldn't have been a quick process to make everything all nice and in an even line, etc. but dang, I am NEVER going to have it out and I haven't the foggiest idea what to do with it.  All I know is that if she keeps it up, I am going to have one heck of a stash of white elephant gifts for future parties and events.

    Bless her heart!   Huh?

My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • Hahahaha! Yes! Thank you DH's aunt for bringing back the awesomeness of your gift-giving. I can't wait to see pictures! :)

  • Oooohhhh a swan!  I would so put that on my coffee table and show that off to the world... Wink
  • DHs mother always gets us the BEST gifts (eye roll needed here)...they are always used and broken.  Last year for Christmas we received a used bread machine that was broken...to the point where you turned it on and it SCREECHED so bad you couldn't run it for more than a minute without getting a headache.  It also didn't heat up so it didn't work.  So that was gift fail # 1 from them.  This year we got gift cards...we thought okay, they were pretty good but we looked at them closer when we got home and they looked like they had been in a wallet for a while so we looked them up...they have been used before and hardly have anything left on them.  I think if we add them all up we might have 1 meal out of them...problem is they are for 3 different places.  Fail #2.  She gives the rest of the family normal gifts but for DH she can't give him normal ones...lucky me!!!

    S/PAIF welcome

  • I got a sweater with large stripes and glitter (AGAIN)....DH got a snow blower.....I feel like I got the shaft on that gift.

Then his mom asked where the crystal vase was that she got me for my shower oh and if the wine glasses that were hanging up on the wine rack the ones she bought us.........am I crazy or is that rude? Hmm

  • Oh wow!  I've never had someone ask me where something was that they gave me.  Did you return them and she was suspicious?  (not that you don't have a right to return something you didn't register for and don't like)

  • No I didn't return the vase or the wine glasses....just every single ugly sweater that has been given to me.  She didn't ask me this, she asked DH....and he just told me last night.  One time she asked me what we did with the money she gave me at my shower......  I was so furious I couldn't respond because I knew nothing nice was going to come out of my mouth.  Which is probably why she should be glad she didn't ask me about the wine glasses and vase, because really bad words would have come out of my mouth.  So it was rude right?  Ya...I thought so....  I just looked at DH when he told me and said "don't you think that was rude as hell?"..COME ON!
