I got a Nook!

I got a Nook for Christmas. Can you all please suggest some good books. I am not into Sci-fi type books, no Harry Potter or Twilight. I like Nicholas Sparks and Jennifer Weiner but I am looking to expand from them. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Re: I got a Nook!

  • If you want a good, long read, I suggest Wally Lamb.

  • Along the lines of Chicklit I love most anything Sophie Kinsella, or Madeleine Wickham (same person).

Sidney Sheldon's The Best Laid Plans is one of my all time favorites, it's a mystery suspense type novel...

The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich is awesome - first book is One for the Money.

  • Hmmm, you say good books but no Harry Potter, those 2 things don't compute in my world, hahaha.  But it really doesn't matter since HP isn't available as ebooks on any platform.

I do agree with Nicole, Wally Lamb is great.  I'm about 1/2 way through The Hour I First Believed and I am really enjoying it.  I've also read She's Come Undone and liked it.  But he is a polarizing author, you either love him or hate him.

Some old favorites are: Where The Heart Is, The Book of Ruth, White Oleander.

  • Emily Griffin's books are great! I love Something Borrowed and Something Blue. And her newest book was very good too.
  • Thanks! I am making a list and will add these to it! The Barnes and Noble website is overwhelmed so it takes so long to get a book but they say it should get easier!
  • I'm copying this list too.  I got a Kindle for Christmas and working through my first book.  I love Patricia Cornwell (she writes forensic mystery) and I'm loving my e-reader!
  • These are not sci fi but more dystopia type books.....the hunger games series was amazing. Now i am reading Matched by allie condie and it really good!

Yes I didn't suggest it since you mentioned no HP and to me it's similar.

I'm 45% through the second book already! WOW! Love them!

  • You can get a lot of the classics for free since their copyrights are long since expired.  Anna Karenina is one of my all time favorite books.  Someone mentioned dystopias and I think The Wanting Seed (or anything by Anthony Burgess) is good (it's kind in the vein of Children of Men, if you've seen that).  I also really loved A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini- I thought it was even better than the Kite Runner.  I also really enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible and I'm a sucker for anything F Scott Fitzgerald or Edith Wharton.  Oh, and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf are interesting glimpse into English melodrama.  Those are all some of my favorites.
