UGH! *Updated*

I just checked my class schedule for next term and my boss has me doing 3 classes back to back on Wednesdays. These classes are 5 hours each!!!!!! Which means, I would have to leave my house at 7:20 am and not get home until 11:30 pm while I'm 7.5- 9 months pregnant. I just sent her an e-mail to ask her if this is a mistake. There's no way I can do that! She just came in to see me and said that she had to put the classes where they fit into the teachers schedules that are going to take over my classes when I have the baby. However, she admits thats it's long and crazy, so she's going to talk to her boss about it tomorrow when she's in and let me know. She told me she has my best interest in mind, but then kept defending her reasoning behind it, so I'm not feeling very confident about anything changing.

  • That's just plain crazy even if you weren't pregnant!  Being in your last trimester makes it impossible.

  • Absolutely not. My board meeting days were awful at the end, and those were only 7:20 a.m.-8:30 p.m. days. I like how you approached it..."Whoops! You seem to have forgotten I am super pregnant..."

  • That sounds awful!!!

    Nice way to approach it...

Agreed.  I hope it's a mistake or that they'll work with you, how crazy!

  • I'm still waiting to hear back from her. Funny thing is that she asked for our preferences as far as class schedules middle of last term and I said the only things I would like to avoid are 3 classes in one day and/or doing a night class and then a morning class the next day. She's usually pretty reasonable, so hopefully this is something that can be fixed. If not, I'll get a note from my OB on Wed. that says no way. Craziness! I mean my back is already killing me and I've only been here for 4 hours. geez.

  • That's a little much!  What is your schedule the rest of the week?  Are you wuitting at the end of the term?  I can't remember when you said your last day would be.

  • 5 hour classes? One alone would be torture, I can't imagine doing three! I hope she fixes this for you because that is nuts.
  • BTW, what the hell do you do for 5 hours? I'm assuming these are workshop classes?

The rest of the week I either have no classes or 1 class a day, so those are fine. I've done 3 in a row in the past (not pregnant) and somewhat liked it because I almost worked half of my weeks hours in one day, but I just can't last that long anymore. Yes, I'm quitting after I have the baby.

We meet once a week, so we pretty much are doing 2 classes in one. Usually, I teach for 3-3.5 hours with a 10 min. break every hour and then the students go into studio time to work on projects and ask questions. I mostly teach architectural software, so it's a lot of hand on computer stuff.

Gotcha. That sounds a lot more reasonable than 5 hours of lecture!

Definitley! Our straight lecture classes, such as History of Architecture, are 4 hours each with a 10 min. break every hour. I'm glad I don't teach any of the all lecture ones! haha
