Pet Peeves- I have to vent.
Ugh. So one of my major pet peeves just happened to me. I put my lunch one of the microwaves at work, set the timer for 2 and a half minutes and when I got back from purchasing my milk and yogurt, someone had taken my lunch out of the microwave and left it sitting on top. I highly doubt that it look me longer than 3 minutes to grab milk and a yogurt and pay. It's not like my food had been sitting in the microwave for 5 minutes getting cold. At most it was sitting for 30 seconds. Grrr.
Anyone else get annoyed by this or similar things?

ditto, my ex-coworkers were dicks though and would leave for hours and then come back. So I just took it out and heated mine up.
same reason. we have 3 micros on our floor and probably 140 employees. there is always a line for the micro.
I would be annoyed if we had many microwaves and no one was waiting. If people were waiting, I'd understand why the took the food out. But if they don't need to - then why?

We take each others food out all the time here. We only have one microwave though.
I really hate when coworkers leave their dirty dishes for someone else to wash. We have to wash pet dishes and storage containers daily, so they think they can just throw in their plates and utensils. Sorry, I don't get paid to wash your crap!

I hate when people take my stuff out of the machines because I have actually had cases where they did not take everything out, my stuff got mixed in with theirs and I lost some of my daughter's clothes. If I waited a long time, it would be one thing but it was within 5 min of the dryer stopping.
I never did it unless I had checked a few times and the laundry had been in there for awhile. I think I actually only did it twice the whole time I lived somewhere with a community laundry room. It *would* be annoying if someone was careless and got stuff lost in the shuffle. :-(
I think no matter what the appliance, a little courtesy should be extended. On the other hand people shouldn't have to wait an obscene amount of time to use something because someone else forgot or got lazy. There is a fine line for everything and unfortunately some people stomp on that line.
That really stinks. But playing devil's advocate, if I go in to the laundry room or kitchen, the majority of appliances don't say, "this dryer or microwave has been done for 5 minutes" For all the other person knows, the clothes or food has been sitting there for 30 minutes.
Sorry that you lost clothes, but I would never throw my laundry in a public machine and leave - that just seems like you are asking to have things lost or stolen. (actually, the one time in college that I did it, I had an expensive pair of jeans stolen, and I really had to blame myself)
A Little Bird and a Monkey Butt
when we lived in an apt with community laundry, I always set my kitchen timer, so I wouldn't forget about my clothes.
I also waited up to 10 minutes after I checked the machines for someone to take them out. After 10, I took them out.
Once, someone took my WET clothes out of the dryer and put them on top...while stealing my dryer time. They did it while it was running, because I always set my timer to go get them...that, and they were SOPPING wet. I dumped their stuff in the utility sink. I was pissed off.
I'm pretty sure they never tried that again. Their attempt to save a dollar by stealing my dryer ended up costing them a new wash cycle and another dryer cycle.
