Hi girls, hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas! My friend got engaged over Christmas and needs help finding a reception hall to hold up to 250 people. It can't be anyplace too expensive, but she does want someplace tasteful. She would like a venue on the east side of town if possible since she will be having family come in from Fowlerville. It would also need to be at, close to, or have shuttles that go to some accommodations for her out of town guests. Anywhere between Lansing and downtown GR are being considered. I'll post this on the knot board as well, but figured I'd start here. Thanks girls!

Re: Reception Halls
Ooh, I forgot about Aquinas. You don't have to be an alumni do you?
That would definitely make a difference. The reason they want access to accomodations is because her family are big drinkers.
Ha...Catholics and dry wedding....I think not.
As of 5 years ago, they were not a dry facility (I looked at their facilities). The Prince Conference Center at Calvin is dry.
Check out "Experience Grand Rapids" website (aka Kent County CVB). There is a search option for meeting planners. You can search rental facilies by location and size.
Ah yes, that's the one that's dry. I knew it was one of the colleges.
Do you mean the Goei Center? It's run by the Eastern Floral owner (Bing Goei). I've heard good things about the facilities there.
I would also recommend the Meijer Gardens based on my experience 7+ years ago.
I thought of a few more places that haven't been mentioned yet. I'm not sure that these all fit 250 people, though, but they might be close.
Watermark Country Club (you don't have to be a member to use their facility)
Kent ISD Conference Center (formerly HBA Conference Center)
WMU Conference Center on E. Beltline
Also, in my experience, most venues around here will negotiate on price if you tell them that price is a factor and you're looking into other venues as well. I think, especially with a wedding of this size, she should be able to get a good price on a venue considering the catering bill will be high.
