Non-hormonal IUD?
Has anyone here used a non-hormonal IUD and what was your experience with it? Any insight to this form of BC would be helpful! Thanks!

I probably posted in the thread below but...
I have a Flexi-T (similar to Paragard, but Canada's version).
I am on my second one, as I just replaced the first one as the time was "running out" on it. So, anyway, I have been using IUD's for about 6 years now.
Honestly, I love, love, love it. I was on BCP for 10+ years before going to the IUD so obviously there was a change with my periods and so on, but I would never go back.
Periods are a bit longer/heavier, but only one day is "very heavy" and the rest are normal (my periods now last 5 days, rather than the 2-3 when I was on the pill). No real bad cramps or anything. There have only been a handful times I have "known" the IUD was there, just in some positions when H has bumped my cervix and I was at a time in my cycle where my cervix was probably sitting a bit lower/was harder....like I said, not very common.
It is wonderful to still be ovulating, etc...I really like that my hormones and fluctuations are MY hormones and fluctuations. I felt like I was in a fog on the pill, in retrospect.
Anyway, it is not for everyone, but I am a huge proponent of the copper IUD for those who are willing to give it a go (and for who it is suitable, of course).
I just had a Dr appt where I spoke w/ her about switching off hormonal BC since it's been causing me issues (I think actually for years, I just never realized that's what was doing it). She agreed I should try the Paraguard, so I'm going in next week to get it inserted. I'm a little nervous about whether it will be painful, but my Dr said she thinks she can get it in no problem - hopefully she's right!
I've have had Paragard since August 2010. I have not had children either. I love it! I've taken several varieties of pills and tried depo. All the hormones really messed me up; weight gain, mood swings, acne, no sex drive...I wasn't the real me.
The first three months were rough in terms of cramping, but that's normal. I knew that going into it. I've had it 5 months and have no complaints at all. Bad cramps are gone. Normal periods. Full bc coverage and not a worry about it! :0)
