iPad Owners...

I had a bunch of money set aside as a downpayment and closing costs on a house that I will no longer be needing.  I'm going to hold onto most of it as a "buffer" but it's far more than 3 months worth of income so I wanted to spoil myself a little tiny bit.  I was thinking a new camera lens but I don't really need one and earlier today I was in Verizon and made the mistake of playing around with their iPads.  And now I want one.

So, question, what size do you have and do you have the WiFi and 3G or just the WiFi version?  Are you happy with what you got or wish you got something else?  Right now I'm thinking the 32 Gig WiFi only version since it's a lot cheaper and I already have a Virgin Mobile Hotspot thingy that is supposed to work with it.  But do you think I'll eventually regret not getting the 3G one?  For those of you who have had yours for a while, how much space are you currently using?  I'd hate to run out of space after just a few months and wish I'd spent a bit more to get the 64 gig...

Re: iPad Owners...

  • I have the WiFi version and I LOVE it..... I would like to have the 3G but honestly I only really use it at home so I dont know if it would be worth it. I have the 32 gig ant it works just fine for me, but I only use this for fun... Haha I'm on it now actually. My bother won an iPad thru a contest at school and since he already had one he gave it to me - and I am obsessed. I hardly even use my computer anymore... If it's just for fun - get the wifi 32 gig. I have tons of games and apps and pictures on here, and it's wonderful! I use the abc app in the morning to watch my soap from the day before, I use my netflix app to watch whatever when I'm cooking... It's fabulous and I'm sure you will love it!!!
  • I have the 32 3G version.  As of now I'm happy with it but I've only had it a few days but Justin has looked into this since they came out.  I think 32 is pretty big, although when Justin synced it with his itunes he managed to take up half the room, BUT that's with thousands of songs and several movies and a lot of stupid apps I later deleted ;)  Personally, I would spring for the extra money to get the 3G capability especially since you travel so much.  It is a bit more expensive and you do have to pay for it monthly IF you activate it.  There is no contract on the 3G and you can buy it as needed.  So, if you are going somewhere you aren't sure how their wifi will be you can activate it, pay for the month and then just cancel it and keep doing that when you need to.  Its nice especially since some hotels charge you for their wifi and limits your amount of usage.  Our time share does this so it will be nice when we go out to Vegas to not have to worry about it. Just my 2 cents.
  • We have the 32gig 3G iPad. I really rarely use it. I would rather use my laptop, hands down, every time (but that doesn't address your questions).

H uses it as basically a very expensive e-reader. We've never used it outside of our house, except we did take it to CO with us in October, but even then we used it in our friends house. That's not to say you won't use it out & about, we just aren't the kind of people to do that. Although, H does get pissed every time we go to Panera Bread and forget to bring it. lol. We don't pay for the 3G service so I don't know what to say about that. The only reason we got the 3G one was because it was the only version Best Buy was selling at the time we got ours. I'm sure the wifi version would serve us just as well.

I saw your post on FB about getting an iPad now or waiting for the iPad 2. All I can say is this whole thing with the iPad 2 is exactly why I personally hate Apple. The iPad hasn't even been out for a full year yet and they're already coming out with a new version. They do this with ALL of their products and it drives me insane. You can literally wait less than a year between Apple products and drive yourself crazy waiting for the newest versions. You could wait to see if you can get an iPad a little cheaper after the iPad 2 comes out, but I doubt you will save that much $$ on it, to be honest. Apple just doesn't do that. If having the "latest & greatest" isn't important to you, then I would say to just get the iPad right now. There's always going to be something new & better.

  • Yeah, Apple is notorious for creating a newer version every year.  The iPhone 5 is coming out next year, too, and the original iPhone came out when I was planning my wedding which wasn't even 5 years ago yet!!  I'm not huge on having the latest and greatest thing, but I do like the idea that it has a forward camera for video chatting since I'd use it a bit to chat with my parents.

I will definitely want only the WiFi version.  It's just so much cheaper and I already pay $40/month for my Virgin Mobile hot spot which I can use to get 3G on the iPad so I don't really care to pay again for the same thing.  BUT it bugs the crap out of my that the iPad doesn't have a USB port!!!  Because my device is a USB device!  grrrrrr!!!
