(who's got an insane friend)
We were supposed to have about a dozen people on Sunday, but the blizzard nixed those plans. Just one couple showed up.
At least it was incentive to get the place in shape.

Blizzard...

And dinner. Salad:

With a dressing E made and homemade croutons from my new boss' wife:

I did green beans:

and honeyed carrots:

(still steaming). And my roasted potatoes:

Meanwhile, E had marinated the turkey.

And then he and Rand dealt with it.

Deep fried.

In the blizzard.

And then they went back out for the deep fried stufing balls.

The turkey was totally worth it, btw (I can say so, since I wasn't the one out there in the craziness).

And we drank 2009 Brooklyn Black Ops with it.

And then for dessert, I baked nut fingers.

And our friends ended up staying overnight, since their 4WD wouldn't kick in.

Everything looks fabulous, I'm glad not everyone bailed in the blizzard.
I loved deep fried turkey!!

We'd have been screwed if they did - it was a 20 lb turkey and totally defrosted! We couldn't save it for another day, and no way could E have fried it himself out there. As it is, I was dashing out with the thermometer to check temps every once in a while, while they held it up with the chains.
It was SO good. I'd never had deep fried turkey before, and I'm kinda embarrassed to say I was skeptical.
I wish everyone had been able to come, but it was great anyway, to have real guests in our new place and do a real dinner.

Don't feel bad, I was beyond skeptical the 1st time I tried it, and now I love it.

I've never had fried turkey; now I want to try it.
Our holiday party every year has a deep fried turkey- rain, snow, blizzard doesn't stop H either.
This year the weather was just cold, but last year we had crazy snow.
