I had a minor meltdown last night. Thank goodness for DH

Yesterday was a long (but mostly great!) day. DH and I got up, exchanged presents, then headed to my grandma's. My entire family goes there (50+ people), and we eat all day and play cards and exchange gifts. I've never NOT gone there at Christmas. I love it.  We took our wedding album (the really nice one  - ya know, the expensive one?) for everyone to look at. Everyone loved it.

When we finally got home (at 9:30 last night - we left the house at 7:30 that morning) I was exhasuted, and a little bummed out. This year is the last year we are going to have xmas at Grandma's - she is 89 and has been slipping (physically and mentally). She will almost for sure not be in her house next year. We've done Christmas there every year my entire life. So I'm bumming hard core, no big deal. DH REAAAAALLLLY had to pee, so he ran in the house. I told him I'd grab the few things in the car and bring them in.

In attempting to do so, I DROPPED our album in the snow.....I got inside and LOST IT. DH grabbed the hair dryer and gently dried it out. (PSA - Don't try wiping wet pages with paper towels- it can smear the ink.) Luckily, DH saved it. The inside cover is a cardboard like material (I'm assuming to protect everything) - no pics, nothing. It's glossy finish is a little rough in a few small spots now because it got wet, but everything else is fine. You can't even notice the part that isn't perfect unless you touch it.

My DH is amazing. He worked on it f;or 20 minutes while I was bawling hysterically.  I'm so glad he saved it. :)

  • Sounds as though you had a wonderful yet emotional day!  Dropping the album must have been the last straw.  I am so glad your DH was able to save it!  Go DH!  Remember to focus on the fun and wonderful memories you have had over the years!

  • Your family Christmas sounds like ours used to be - we all have gathered at my grandmother's house at some point forever.  My grandmother is now almost 92, and she's in the hospital not doing well.  My mother has been doing all the cooking and making Christmas at grandma's somewhat what it once was and still tried to do that this year in spite of the fact that my grandma's in such bad shape.  I was realizing that this might be the last Christmas that her house is available for that, and it was making me sad.  I can't imagine dropping the wedding album in the snow on top of that.  SO glad your DH was able to save it!  I hope your grandma is okay!
  • What an amazing DH! How sweet of him to do that!! Try to think of the happy moments with your grandmother over the years!! Hope you are haveing a better week!
