Very expensive day today

I had a doctors appointment this morning.

Now I have an IT guy coming out to find a random annoying virus on my home computer network. We have a ton of devices, and when removed from my home network some work fine. But on my home network, they're all a nightmare (hell, my iphone is getting pop ups). I had to pay for travel fees and in-home technician to come out. This is going to cost HUNDREDS. I'm going to attempt to expense it on work.

Tonight, Doodle has a vet appointment for his shots.

Ugh.....

Should we take an over/under on my money spent today?

I already spent $41.33 on gas.

  • Gross. Days like that make me ill.

Assuming the dr's appt was OBGYN- do you have a co-pay for each separate visit? I had a $250 co-pay for my entire gamut of pre-natal care and paid for nothing else. I was pretty satisfied with that.

Ugh....I wish. I pay $187.50 monthly for the next six months.

  • Not including delivery? Does that go towards your deductible?

Yup, not including delivery. The hospital will handle all of that (haven't even gotten an estimate yet).

I believe we can use both Greg's insurance and mine for a least part of the hospital costs. I hope.  Indifferent

  • That blows. I pay a *** ton in premiums for the three of us, but it was definitely worth it since we had the baby last year. I'm going with a higher deductible this year and hoping none of us get hospitalized.

I don't feel like I understood what bills I would be getting from who before I started the whole thing. I ended up with one bill from the hospital for me, one bill from the hospital for May, one from the clinic for my prenatal care and one from the clinic for May's peds check-ups/tests in the hospital. I'm just glad I got an itemization on my EOBs or I would have been more than overwhelmed.

Yeah, no one explained all of that to me at all. I really wish they had. I assumed the $2k I'm paying the OBGYN was going to cover everything, it wasn't until something was said to me that a lightbulb clicked on and I realized I was going to be billed by a bunch of different people.

My healthcare is 100% paid for by my company, so I don't have much to complain about or voice as far as frustrations go. It looks like it's an 80/20 plan which is going to cost us a bunch out of pocket.

Hopefully Greg's insurance can cover the 20% remaining on the baby once it's here.

  • Try getting multiple bills for Amelia and separate hospital bills for me for her delivery.  Then throw in two more ER/hospital stays plus a surgery/hospital stay.  I'm still trying to figure out where all the bills are coming from and what they are for.

I had to pay one $20 co-pay for all my ob/gyn appointments which was pretty nice.  Or it was until I went in for my 6 week pp appointment and found out I still owed them nearly $2000.  It seems that even though they double and triple checked with my insurance they were still told wrong about what was covered.  Yeah, I had to pay it in (3) monthly installments while we were reeling from all the other hospital bills.

I swear they need to throw in some kind of class to discuss all this stuff.

  • Ugh, I despise days like this. How'd your appt go though?

I know, this stuff gets expensive real quick- even with some of the best insurance.

I also was told something different than what I actually had to pay. It was my understanding that I would have to pay $250, but when we went through my coverage,  their patient account rep told me I wouldn't have any charges at all. I was only sort of surprised when I got the bill for $250 at the end.

I was told incorrectly by someone at my insurance company.  They told me I would only owe $500 for everything.  Not exactly - $500 to my OB, and then another $1500 for everything else.

I was told by the financial counselor, who called my insurance while I was in her office, that I was 100% covered. Turns out it was 100% for certain things and not for others. Then we got a bill for me and for Nate from every doctor who was present when Nate was born (there were 5 in the room). Then, at some point in the billing process, they somehow forgot that I had insurance and started sending me all the bills instead of my insurance company. We had good insurance, so we still didn't have to pay a lot, but it was significantly more than 0. How can they be so unorganized? It's like I was the first person with this insurance to ever have a baby in that hospital, which certainly can't be true.

  • Yeah...I hadn't realized how expensive it'd be to have JJ, even WITH insurance, until he was born. We spent months paying on all that stuff. Sigh.

Hope the day isn't TOO expensive!

  • Yikes! I hope it's not too expensive! I also hope they can get rid of the virus. How assuming the appt went well?
