Iphone or Blackberry

So, I get $200 every 2 yrs to buy a new phone from my firm. I've had my blackberry for 3 yrs or so.  For a while, the firm wasn't paying for iphone service plans since they have a blackberry enterprise server.  But, now, apparently, they will pay for the iphone data plan.

Stick w/ the blackberry or go w/the Iphone?  For the most part, I use my phone for work emails and viewing work related docs.  The former is great on the blackberry, the latter sucks.

Re: Iphone or Blackberry

  • I have no problem reviewing docs on the iphone. The screen is huge. The virtual keyboard takes some getting used to, but it's worth it for the increased screen size without adding the bulk of a keyboard

  • I am such a bberry person.  Especially for typing emails and such.  I like having a physical keyboard.  For viewing docs, it is not the greatest, but I can get by to at least read quickly, until I can get back to read more thoroughly.  I guess it just depends what is needed more emails or viewing docs and fun apps.

I know a few people that like the droid phones as a compromise btwn the bberry and the iphone.  However because your firm has a BES, your emails may come a lot faster with a bberry.

  • You can open pdfs (and other formats too) on the iphone.  I don't use mine for work e-mail, but Brett does, and he views documents on there all the time.

I agree with moo on the screen/keyboard.  I know a lot of people say they would hate a touchscreen, but you get used to it really quickly.

  • EAB, can you get a droid w/ AT&T service?
  • I have a blackberry for work, Mr. Mod has an iphone. although I hate parts of Mr. Mod's iphone, on the whole it is a better machine than the blackberry. I have never had a webpage refuse to load because it is too large, opening documents does look better because the zoom in feature is better (although if you are reading a bunch of pleadings, I still think you might find it annoying.)

If you can get an iPhone for the $200 or for <$100 extra of your own money, I'd do it. If not, I'd stick with the blackberry.

  • I vote iPhone. The screen alone makes doc views easier. Plus Liza will love it. Maggie is obsessed with mine.

  • I think there are several Androids for AT&T, and some of them have keyboards (I am a Verizon user).  I tried in vain to get used to an iphone keyboard, and really couldn't get used to it.  I am someone who needs to feel a keyboard---especially when trying to email from under a table during a meeting.

I think you can. Droid phones have the option to use Swype for your keyboard, which involves dragging your finger across the touchscreen instead of tapping. I find it to be much faster and more accurate than regular touchscreen tapping. I'm sure it will end up on the iPhone eventually, but for now it's just a Droid thing. I have no trouble w/documents / pdfs either.

  • Many thanks, folks.  Informative.
  • I LOVE my iphone. LOVE. I don't think I can ever go back to another type.
  • Get a BB with the new 6.0 OS. It is much easier to read/edit docs.
