Have we discussed these yet? (if so, I apologize, I didn't see a recent post about them). What are you doing?
Megan, Laura, and Jen - are you normally drinkers on NYE? Will it be weird not to be able to drink?
Re: NYE Plans
I'm truly not a drinker at all (I didn't even drink at my wedding), so not having a drink won't be odd at all.
Joe and I were invited to a large party going on downtown. The ticket prices were $50/person with an open bar which isn't bad at all, but it seemed like a waste for me to get a ticket to go to a party where the focus is primarily drinking. As of right now, we don't have any plans. I'm more of a homebody than anything, so we may just go over to my sister's or mother's house and play cards and eat food.
Yah, I'm glad to hear there are others like us/me. We debated doing a bar package b/c that's pretty much the major option here...but we decided that at $85 each, that $170 would buy us a really nice dinner and we'd actually be able to relax and not be crammed in a small bar. So we're saving our money.
Our current plans is to bust out the Margarita machine we got for the wedding and our new marg glasses we got for Christmas, have margs, guacamole and homemade enchiladas while playing some of DH's new video games (Family Fued and Buckhunt for Wii) and enjoy each others company.
Who knows if sometime will come up at the last minute though.

We did a big "package" night NYE gala last year with a group of friends and it was a blast. We think we may do it as an every other year kind of thing.
This year, we've invited a few friends over to the house, going to have a fun game night with good beer, wine, and munchies. Good excuse for a mini-party!
Water in a beer bottle. It works.

Perfect love drives out fear.
Same here...we usually have a few drinks at a friends' house, then spend the night over there. Although I won't be drinking, we will probably still spend the night if we end up doing our "usual" so we don't have to be out on the roads...I avoid driving on NYE at all costs...too dangerous!
Jen - good luck hiding it!!! I like Jacki's idea! That was really tough for me. I don't drink much, but would typically have one beer at get-togethers...and even not drinking that created a lot of questions. I also am addicted to iced tea, which I've had to give up, so me drinking only water piqued some curiosity as well.
Edit: The reason it was so difficult was because I am not a good liar, and I hate hiding things from people, so I had a hard time when people would ask.

Go with sparkling water with lime - it looks just like a vodka tonic, and no one will know the difference. And if anyone asks what it is, just give them a "what do you think?" with a wink/smile.
