TTC Check In

Hi!  I hope everyone had a great holiday!  Sorry I hadn't been around for a while.  My laptop broke and I had to send it off to get fixed.  I was without a laptop for 10 days, which sucks when the internet is my only access to the outside world most days - LOL!

How are you guys doing this week?

Any TTC questions?

Any vents?

Any updates?

Anyone testing soon?

Anything else you would like to share?

Re: TTC Check In

  • The last time I met with my OB he said I was all clear to start trying again.  He told me that if I haven't gotten pregnant in 3 months I should make an appointment to see him.  He also said that if I haven't gotten my period or ovulated in 60 days make an appointment to see him and he will start IF testing and possibly prescribe Clomid.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that I am ovulating.  Ugh.  It's frustrating.   I hate that my body isn't cooperating.  And I hate that I was pregnant a month ago and now I am right here trying to get pregnant again.

I hope to see some BFP posts from everyone!  GL!

  • I am exploring this whole other reason for why I think we haven't had any luck yet. It involves treating hidden infections that we both may have. These infections are often the cause of many couples' IF (they can cause sperm to stick together, etc) but doctors almost never test for them, preferring to push their patients toward costly fertility treatments first. After I brought the scenario up to my RE, he prescribed an antibiotic for me, and I'm working on getting the same stuff prescribed for H. Then we can both take it at the same time for my next cycle and who knows, maybe this will be the magic solution. I am ALL about exhausting my cheaper options first before shelling out the dough for pricey meds, IUI, or IVF!
  • We have finally made up our minds to start trying this year. Now we just have to decide WHEN.

I really want to start trying in February, my thinking being since I am 36 it is going to take awhile. But if I am an anomaly and get pregnant immediately it could prove somewhat problematic since:

    a) I am taking a page out of Ragazza's book and walking 60 miles in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day in July and it would suck to do so five months pregnant, and

    b) I really can't stand my job and would really be pissed if I was stuck in it for at least another year.

Plus now we're thinking as much as we love love LOVEEEEEE Boston, we really need to be living closer to family when we have kids. Our lease is up in August.

So probably some time around July we will stop TTA and start TTC. Still a ways off, but I'm excited since I was unsure for awhile whether or not we wanted kids and it's nice to be firmly on the "I really do want kids" side of the fence.

YAY!  I am so excited to see you a) back on the board and b) joining the TTC crowd!

GL at the 60 mile walk!  I know you will do great!

Also, I am sorry to hear that your job isn't what you hoped it would be :(  Hopefully that situation gets better or you are able to find a job that is better suited for you.

I have never heard of this.......very interesting!  Hopefully these infections are what is causing you a roadblock in TTC and you get your BFP soon!

Yeah, it's sad how doctors kind of "keep" this info from us! But there have been many instances of couples trying for years and years, spending thousands on treatments, and then finally taking a cheap antibiotic which clears up a simple infection. And then conceiving soon after! So I'm hoping.... fingers crossed!

  • Kathy-Well it's good your Dr has a plan and wants to see you and not make you wait.  I understand the frustrations though.  I never thought TTC would be so hard!!  Working in a pediatric ER is so hard because almost everyday I see a young teenager girl that we tell she's pregnant.....VERY FRUSTRATING!!!  Good luck this cycle!
  • Joanna-Good luck to you!!  Hope you get BFP soon

Good luck!! I hope you get your BFP!!

  • Did you know that what happened to H like 3 months ago affects his sperm?  When they do the SA, or when you do IUI or IVF if H was sick, or taking any meds 3 months prior it can affect it.  So if you do happen to discover that he had some kind of infection it will take a few months for it to get out of the system.  IDK if I'm making any sense, but if you google it you can find more info.
