has anyone given two weeks notice after a month of work?

Just wondering. I'm going to give two weeks notice tomorrow in order to return to a place that I had been working Per Diem at,...but they didn't have a job opening until recent.  I know I should probably stick it out at this place I have only been at for a month now, but I'm concerned about losing my skills because it is so monotonous, and I'm the only full time physical therapist...and a new grad as of May 2010...i just don't think it's the right environment.

Re: has anyone given two weeks notice after a month of work?

  • Yes.  I quit a job after a month.  I said that the fit just wasn't right for me and thank you for the opportunity but I was going to look elsewhere.  They pressed me to stay but I left anyway.  Good luck!
  • When I saw the title, I'd say that today should be your last day. However, upong finding out that you are the one one doing direct care, I'd say give them 2 weeks and let them know that it wasn't the right fit. Not their business on where you are going next.

Be prepared if they say to leave today rather than in 14 days.

  • I did once (recently) at a banquet serving job.  It was completely not the right fit for me, so I gave my 2 weeks after only 4 shifts.  He asked why, and I explained.. not awful. :)

  • I've never left that quickly but I've had many friends who have.  Like the PP said, be prepared if they ask you to leave on the spot.  Sometimes I find employers would just rather have un-invested employees leave upon notice rather then stretch it out for two weeks.

  • I think that you need to do what is best for you. I work in HR, and this type of thing happens. At the end of the day worry about you. If you worked some where else that made you happier, go there! Life is too short to spend 8+ hours a day in a place you dread going to every morning!
