Why I am not a pet owner ....

Disclaimer :: I really do love animals, and I grew up with dogs and cats in the house. I'm not a monster.

I am dog and cat sitting for my friends who live with me cause they are house sitting for the week. I made the girls chicken nuggets for lunch and they were eating them at their princess table in the dining room. I went in the kitchen to fill up their cups and they followed me ... we go back to the dining room and the stinkin dog had eaten the nuggets right off of Charli's plate - which was still on the table! We weren't even gone 3 minutes. GRRRR!!!! And he has a full bowl of food and a full bowl of water. He eats the girls food all.the.time. and i'm getting soooooo sick of it!!!! I literally just do not like this dog. And I feel kind of bad about it but he is super annoying and I just don't feel like they take very good care of him.

Ok, rant over.

Re: Why I am not a pet owner ....

  • ahhh I hear ya... I am 100% a pet lover but I get so angry when my dog does that kind of stuff.  He will jump up on the kitchen table to eat the kids food if they leave the table.  We have to baby-gate him out of the kitchen every time we eat because I can't be everywhere all the time.

  • Ohhh yeah, plates of food are never safe!!  hahaha

It stinks if they don't properly train or care for their animals though. :( :(

  • Yeah, I think from now on he is going in the basement at meal time. He can lay on the couch down there and play pool, lol.
  • Oh, I hear ya! You would think by the way my dogs act around people food I never feed them.

Tango is the worst offender. Last night, B was feeding B2 some franks and beans, set the bowl on the table, went into the kitchen and when he came back out the bowl was upside down on the floor, lazby boy was swaying. I looked at B and said That has Tango written all over it. She is the only one who will jump up in the chair.

So in the end, she got her wish b/c there were franks and beans and the floor and I figure it was easier for her to "clean" the floor than me. LOL.

  • haha my dog is so good!!!

We have never given him people food from the table or from our hands unless he was getting it as a treat (ie cheese, lunch meat, ect) and he always has to do "something" to get it.

He will sniff our food when we eat at the coffee table but then go and lay down.

We have to firmly tell guests and when we take him places NOT to feed him from the table.  You would think someone wouldn't feed him anyways but Tim got in a big argument at our superbowl party because someone gave Rowan a chip form the couch.

I bet if they didn't let him/her eat at home like that he wouldn't beg.  Our friends dog will literally DROOL while watching you eat.  (blech)

  • Do you have a squirt bottle you can fill with water? I squirt my dog whenever she does something she isn't supposed to. She HATES it and she is at the point that I just show her the quirt bottle and she stops whatever she is doing.
