AKC naming the puppy
Jasper will be AKC registered, so we need to come up with a full name for him. The name I've come up with so far is:
Yellow Jasper in the Ruff
My reasons are: he's a yellow lab, his call name will be Jasper, and Jasper is a semi-precious stone (which comes in many shades, including yellow also), so I was thinking along the lines of 'diamond in the rough', but thought 'ruff' was a cuter play on words.
I've never had an AKC dog so I am a virgin to the naming process...I know the names can get pretty crazy, especially for show dogs. We will definitely not be showing or breeding him though.
What do you guys think? Do you like the name? Have any other fun suggestions?

that is super cute!! my aunt had a AKC registered boxer. she named her Colfie's Freckled Sugar Babie. We just called her Sugar Babie.
Her mothers name was Colfie. She was brown, the same color brown as the candy "sugar babies" with white freckles.
When I hear in the rough, I think of Aladdin when they are looking for the "diamond in the rough haha

I had an AKC registered dog growing up, I think we named her as if she was a child. Candy Renee Dumire or something.
But the name you picked is cute. I just have mutts so I only have them named what i call them!

Thanks everyone! Jen and Theresa, I totally thought of Aladdin too when the phrase 'diamond in the rough' first came to mind!
I think I am going to stick with Yellow Jasper in the Ruff :-)

Are you not required to use the kennel name in the registered name? My contract for my pure bred dog had that in it. His call name was Taj. His kennel was Serendipity Australian Shepherds and his registered name was
"Serendipity's 7th World Wonder" (you know, Taj Mahal? Eh.. maybe it was dumb, but that's what it was!)
He was both AKC and ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) registered.
(anyone thinking of getting an Aussie, do NOT use this kennel. Taj was a very inbred and VERY sick dog. Get a mutt - they are healthy!)
