What did ya get?

Since I like reading (on other boards) what people got for the Holidays, I figured I would ask here! So did you get some great stuff for Christmas?

  • I <3 Friends and the Big Bang Theory!

We keep it pretty low-key gift-wise, and probably will continue to do so until there are kids around.  It's more about yummy food and spending time together.  But here's what I got:

Make up brush set (I needed it SO BADLY), socks, "our first married Christmas" ornament, travel mugs for my beloved Keurig - all from MIL (well, FIL had me in the grab bag...but MIL picked everything out!)

My parents were incredibly generous - they paid for our hotel in Milwaukee!  Sneaky bastards called our travel agent.  They also got me adorable PJs and socks AND a coat rack!  It's from Ikea and it rules.

We had a $5 limit at our other family party, so everyone was extra creative! I got wine (yummm), a nightlight, a cookie timer, a storage container AND red velvet cupcake mix!

I'm adding another category to this: What was your favorite gift to give this year?

I gave my mom and aunts the peas in a pod necklace and they LOVED them!  I was so happy. They turned out so cute!

  • I'm glad the necklaces worked out!

My favorite gift to give this year was my mom's. I got her a webcam and everything else needed so she can Skype with my brother and I. She's had a hard time dealing with "an empty nest". Now we talk all the time! lol

  • From DH: A Saucony long sleeve running shirt, Miracle on 34th street and the Grinch who Stole Christmas (DVDs) and the Grinch who stole christmas book (in his words: to read to our kids one day...awwww), and our trip to Paris/Rome

From MIL/FIL: Stocking full of junk food, a few GF cookbooks (Not that it's about the gifts, but I was shockingly underwhelmed at the IL's this year compared to previous years gifts)

    From Grandparent IL's: $$$

From my parents: White serving dishes (set of 3 bowls, round large plate, large serving platter, smaller rectangular plates and a three-tier server), some really cute sweaters

From my grandparents: Pampered Chef stoneware baking dishes, a scarf, $, some tops that went back to Kohls because they came from the Juniors Dept and don't fit right...

DH got completely spoiled this year from my parents. His parents are really weird and for some reason didn't get him anything (and as you can see, I barely got anything) and my parents felt bad about it so on top of getting him the new Duracell My Grid, my dad bought him a $500.00 gun so that he can have his own when he goes with him to guys sporting weekend (they all camp and shoot clay birds, etc. all weekend).

The best thing I gave went to my mom. I got her a bunch of Christmas CD's that were copies of really old Christmas tapes she had. Obviously since cassette decks are basically obsolete she hasn't listened to them in a long time and got very sentimental.

  • Why didn't your ILs get your H anything?  So weird!

And I guess we all have a soft spot for our moms, since the three of us liked the gift we gave our mom best!

They claim they "forgot" to give it to him but I'd put money on them forgetting to buy him anything. He's kind of the black sheep - his brother is the golden child. The family is just weird, he's nothing like them. I always tease him that he was adopted (various reasons, mainly there are no pictures of him until he was 3, he looks/acts nothing like them, etc) I'm not kidding you, but one year they took family pictures while he was away at college (he only went to school 2 hours away, so he could have come home) but instead of telling him that they were doing it, they put his brothers German Shepherd in the picture and he didn't find out until he got one in the mail.

  • Whaaaaat?  That's crazy!  How many siblings does he have?  And older or younger?  His family sounds nutso!

He only has one older brother but his mom is bizarre. The winner in this whole black sheep thing - his parents paid for most of his brothers wedding (extremely expensive at a golf resort with like $100.00/person dinner) and never even offered us a penny for ours!

Crazy IL's. Thank God I live 10 hours away from them.

Indifferent  W.T.F.  Well, at least 1) they're far away, and 2) your H recognizes their craziness.

  • Eskamo: It sounds like you'll be doing a lot of tv-watching!

Noron: I'm so glad the necklaces worked out!

Musgral: Those are some very strange in-laws indeed! I'd have been pretty pissed about the wedding thing.

This is what I got this year:

My parents:  A kindle; a travel photography book; mittens; a groupon for a restaurant; slippers; popcorn seasoning.

My sister: A cover for my kindle; new bed sheets.

His parents: Money to go shopping at the awesome outlet malls near their place.

His sister: A Borders gift card (the point was so I could buy books for my new kindle, but she misunderstood how a kindle works).

DH: A Kenneth Cole dress (we went shopping together at the outlet mall and each bought each other something we thought the other looked hot in but probably wouldn't buy for ourselves.
