Talk to me about your e-readers

H keeps insisting he wants to get me either a Nook or Kindle.  I'm hesitant because part of me is old school and loves the feel of a good ole' book in my hands, but the other side of me thinks of how handy it is and cheaper books......

So, what do you like about yours?  Pros/cons to one or the other?

Re: Talk to me about your e-readers

  • I got the nook for christmas and I really like it.  It took me a log time to decide which one I wanted.

I played with both of them and realized that I liked the buttons on the kindle to type in what you are looking for, but I liked the search features and the menus on the nook better.

The was ready to pick the kindle over the nook because I found out you can download library books on the kindle, but you can now do that on the nook as well.  And you can share books on the nook with other nook owners for 14 days.

  • I got the Nook for Christmas and I LOVE it. But make no mistake - the books really are not that much cheaper than a traditional book. I think that's stupid, but it's fact.

But the ability to buy a book anytime I like without leaving the comfort of my home? Priceless.

  • I considered getting one sometime next year - I really want to start reading again, but I don't because I never have the time to hit the library or the bookstore. I've heard awesome things about the Nook...hm...

  • I have a Kindle.  However, it does NOT support library books like Vikki said.  Maybe the news one do though, I have an "old" one.  By old, I got in in April!  Anyway, my version can't get library books which makes me sad because my school district has an online library now (first in the nation!) and I can't' use it.

So, in that aspect, I would choose a Nook over a Kindle now.  However, I LOOOOOVE my Kindle.  I take it in my tote bag everywhere I go.  I read it in the car.  I read it in the doctor's office.  I read it in bed at night.  I bust it out everywhere!

Either way, you can't go wrong.  You just have to look at the features and figure what's best for you.  Book prices for both are pretty much the same.  most books run about $9.99 each or more for new releases and popular books.  You can get classics for free from Gutenberg.com and I know some websites to find free books for the Kindle.  I love reading them because it's exposed to me authors I may have never found before!

  • I love my Kindle.  I love being able to throw in bag and take it everywhere. I especially loved having it when I had doctor appts all the time.

  • I got a kindle for Christmas and LOOOVE it soo much! It's just awesome! Amazon offers lots of FREE books too! I downloaded 10 free books in one night! I really like this because it has exposed me to new authors that I would have never chosen to read on my own. There's a message board (I think on amazon, I'm not sure) where members post all the free books that are being offered. You should hop over to the nest book club board because there are a couple of posts about the Nook and Kindle. But when it comes down to it, I think it's just a personal choice. HTH

  • I love my kindle as well.

I love the fact that I don't have tons of books laying around my house,  I hate clutter.

  • We just got a Pandigital e-reader for Christmas that my mom bought off QVC. So far I'm liking it, but I haven't done too much with it. I believe that I can only buy books from Barnes & Noble off of it, but it has a browser so I'm going to check out to see if I can get on Amazon and buy books from there.

It's not really something I wanted because I do love reading actual books, but now that I have it I'll use it.
