Navy blue bridesmaid dresses?
SIL really wants them for her July by-the-beach wedding but MIL is refusing because she doesn't think it will be colorful enough in the photos.
We're trying dresses on today. MIL wants periwinkle. I think I'd prefer navy if only because it is more classic for rewear and because it won't (I don't think) show sweat as much as periwinkle at the end of July.
Re: did anyone do...
I didn't but I did black (it's close) and I thought it looked great, it really gives you limitless options on your flowers as will navy. I think periwinkle will really limit the options and I'm not a big fan of pastel colors and I don't think it's the best color for everyone or a summer wedding.
If I had gone in another direction with my theme I would have done navy dresses.

Also did not do navy (definitely on our list though), but please please convince her to avoid the periwinkle! I was in a wedding in high school for my cousin and the pit stains were aweful- not very flattering.
Have you also considered switching up the fabrics? We had cotton dresses (from American Eagle actually) and the dresses lent itself to a more relaxed feel, vs a satin....
I am trying to urge against the periwinkle, mainly because of the sweat factor. I told this to MIL and she insisted it won't be that hot. I'm like, hello, it's JULY. It will be hot.
I don't know. I love the idea of Navy and it is what the bride really wants. I'm not sure what her dress is - I think it is off-white, but not really ivory, though it's hard for me to tell from the pictures.
I think navy would compliment the water better. Plus with the 4th of July and the whole red, white, and blue vibe of the month, I think navy would go well in that respect too.
But I'm going to play devil's advocate because I did periwinkle-ish dresses for my wedding and I thought they looked really nice. It wasn't too hot but very humid.
Just remind SIL that it is her day and she should pick the color she always wanted, not what her mother wants.
Also,we went to a wedding on the beach and the bridesmaid each wore a different color blue. It looked really nice. Feel free to show her this pic for inspiration.
well, we did not get navy. she went with Riviera instead:

MaOH (other SIL) and I both are going to wear this style in the Riviera blue
SIL is going to be about 6 weeks postpartum (if she delivers on due date) and I am hoping to be pregnant - depending on if/when that happens I might order a different dress, but we'll see.
The other girls are wearing this, but with the sewn-in waist (not shown here for some reason), also in the Riviera.
The bride's dress has a sweetheart neckline so I guess both of these will go. Of course the difference is that MaOH is usually a size 0 or 2 (but now, gasp a size 6 as she is pregnant) and mine was like an 18, so in the larger size the sweetheart is not as pronounced. But I think it will be pretty, and hopefully everyone will be happy.
