so, lets get to know each other outside of our weddings...

Tell me about your household - do you live in a city or a town, a house or apartment, is it you and DH, or children, or with extended family?  Do you have pets?

I live in a large city (over 1 million people) on the east coast of Australia.  DH and I rent a 2 bedroom apartment about 10-15 minutes by train from the city centre.  We live with our 4 guinea pigs who provide us with hours of entertainment, but I think I could be allergic to them!  We had fish but DH's office looked after them while we were away for the wedding and honeymoon and I think they've claimed them as office mascots now.

My sister and her FI live around 20 minutes away from us, and both DH's and my Mum are just over an hour away, but if opposite directions.  Both our Dads live in Europe.

a small mining town in the Australian Outback. Neither of us are from there but we both moved there in the second last year of highschool. He was moved next to me in maths class to stop him talking. It didn't work.

Re: so, lets get to know each other outside of our weddings...

  • We live in good ol' middle America--a little town called Independence, MO, in a rental house for now, with 3 of the 8 kids we have between the 2 of us...my 3, his 4, and one we consider another one of our kids, who moved in with us when her parents kicked her out just because she was 18 and "it was time."

In addition to all the kids, we have 2 cats (Miley and Jethro) and a dog (Riley).  My parents and one of my daughters live 3 minutes away from us, and my sister and grandmother live about 10-15 minutes away.

  • This'll be nice! You get a sense for someone through their plans, but it's nice to know a little more =)

DH and I live in a small town (~3000 people) on the east coast of Canada. It's a nice place to be during the summer, since we're a 10 minute walk from the ocean. But during the winter it's a pain in the butt, since we live half an hour from the city where we both work, and I'm horrible at winter driving (got stuck twice and went into the ditch once yesterday XP). The house we live in now is my parents summer place.

Next fall, my brother will be moving in with us, and we'll be getting a place in the city (it's actually 3 towns very close together, with ~120,000 people, so pretty small still), which will be nice for our social lives, lol. For the moment, though, it's just us, our dog Oliver, and our two outside cats.

We visit infrequently with my IL's, who live about two hours to the north. During the summer, my mom comes up to run the house as a B&B, but otherwise they live in Florida, so we very rarely see them.

  • This is fun!

H and I live in a pretty small city of about 15,000 people.  We just bought a house together and closed the day before the wedding :)  It is our dream home!  It's on a lake and it perfect for us.  We also live about a mile away from the Gulf of Mexico.  We have a Boston Terrier, Millie, who is my child.  She keeps me company while H is on travel for work.  My entire family lives about five miles away (it's where I grew up) and BIL and SIL also live here with our niece. Hs parents live about an hour and fifteen minutes away, so we're all pretty close.

  • Yaayy!! How fun :)

DH and I live in a small town (~2000) in the great state of Texas :) We live in a house with DH's Grandfather, because he is having some health problems... But we enjoy his company, and I'm sure that he enjoys ours so he isn't lonely :) We also have two children (our doggies) Kaiser ~ Jack Russell Terrier, and Oscar ~ Bassett Hound.

DH is going back to school right now to get his Masters of Education in History and Kineseology... And I work at a bank in our town :) DH's family lives in Houston, and my family lives in Dallas :)

Yaayy!! Can't wait to get to know everyone

    Everyday is a miracle. Anniversary
  • We are from Chicagoland area, but currently live wayyy up north in Illinois of the great Midwest. We are looking to sell our townhouse and move closer to Chicago/family/southern suburbs. We hope to put the house on the market by end of January! We're looking for the typical suburban special with 4 bedrooms, fence, and enough space for us to grow once we have kiddos. We are too far from my family at the moment, but sort of close to H's.

We have the most adorable daschund (weenie dog) named Bianca that is the world's most spoiled fur ball. She even wore a matching bridesmaid dress on the wedding day, but unfortunately she couldn't attend.

I'm in the hospitality/wedding industry. H works for a tv ratings company and teaches a little martial arts on the side.

  • DH and I live in Chandler right outside of Phoenix.  We live in a 2 br apt and don't plan on buying a home anytime soon, we want to move out of AZ as soon as he is done with school in a couple years so we will see where we end up.  We have one cat named Kitty, completely spoiled.  : )

  • Hey guys...this is my first time back since the wedding :)

We live in a small, country town in South Carolina (United States).  We took over a house that was his mothers and have completely remodeled it.  I have one dog, named Bug.  He is at my mom's now because he has had a very difficult time adjusting to the new home.  He turned 9 yesterday and has always lived at my moms with me...so its been hard for him.  We're going to try a gradual move and hope that works better.

  • This is really fun! I'm going to enjoy getting to know all of you in a very different light.

DH and I live in a medium sized city definatly not big but definately not small, in Mid-Michigan. We are currently renting the house I grew up in from my mom who has sinced moved into the house she inherited from my grandmother. We have one very cuddly cat named Lilly funny fact is I used to hate cats and now Lilly has completely changed my veiw on that one.

Most of my family live within 20 miles of each other here in Saginaw, with the exception of 1 aunt who lives in wisconsin. DH's family lives about 2 hours away, we get to see them on a regular basis. I have an 11 year old almost 12 year old brother, who is amazing and he is my only sibling. My dad lives in Indiana.

Days until I become Mrs. C
  • We live in a city just outside Springfield, Missouri in a house.  Our "kids" are our two Boxers Duke & Daisy.  We live just a few minutes from my in-laws and about thirty minutes from my family.

Someday we'll move back to my hometown, where my family lives.  Our kids would go to school where I graduated from... The only downside I see so far on this is a lot of people I grew up with still live in the area and my children would go to school with their children... which means the 13 years I spent with some people in school could be repeated by my own children and their spawn.

I didn't post much in the December weddings forum on theKnot but I lurked plenty!

  • Great idea! This is a fab way to get to know each other beyond the wedding planning!

We live in Downtown Philadelphia, where the Hubs is from and I've lived for about 8 years now. As many of you heard me whine about, we settled on our condo the Thursday of wedding week, so the last few weeks since the wedding have been spent, packing, moving, unpacking and finally now getting settled. We bought a 2 bed/ 2 bath condo with a bonus room, huge outdoor patio and PARKING (YAY!) in the Fairmount section of the city. He's from Philadelphia originally so his parents live about 5 miles from us in the heart of downtown while his older brother and extended family live in Croatia, my family is all in California where I'm from or Ohio and the Carolina's.

We have an 18 month old Pug/Beagle mix named Coatsey. She's named after Steve Coates who's one of the local hockey announcers for the Flyers. No kids for now, but we are both in our late 20's so that will probably begin to happen sooner rather then later.

  • Hey Everyone!

H and I live in Covington, KY ( a city right across the river from Cincinnati, OH.) We both grew up in suburbs on Cincinnati, and for the most part enjoy the city life we have now. H bought our house in 2002. It was built in 1887 and regularly gives us projects to work on. Like last year, when a bathroom leak caused the dining room ceiling to cave in on Thanksgiving!  ;-)

We have St. Polly Girl, a beagle, rat terrier, jack russell mix who is 2.

H is a pilot and I am a high school English teacher.

H was off work the week before the wedding and ten days after. I've been off work since the 15th of Dec. Not looking forward to going back on Monday!

Best wishes to all of the newlyweds!

  • Yay for a fellow Kentuckian!  I, too, am a Southern Belle living in a large city in KY (pop about 500,000).  I have lived almost my whole life here with the exception of 4 years of college and a year I spent in veterinary school.  H bought our house right before we met and I've grown to really love it.  It's a "fixer" and our projects for 2011 will be re-wiring the electrical in the house, updating the bathroom, and finishing the basement.

H is an engineer and I am a science teacher.  We bought a Mega Millions ticket earlier today in hopes of retiring early!!!

We have joint custody of a 3year old Jack Russell Terrier named Lucy with my parents and I'm looking to get our own dog this summer when I'm off of work.

H is from "the mistake by the lake" (no offense to anyone from Cleveland, I happen to like it very much) and that's where all of his family lives.  We visit every single holiday.  My family lives about 15minutes from us so we have frequent "Sunday Fundays" with them.  I look forward to visiting our new board!

  • I was just stopping by to check this out, and figured I'd join in too :)

H and I live in a house that we rent right by Hershey, PA.  It's out in the country, but only 10 mins from every surrounding town...it's the perfect location.  We love it!

My family all lives about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs away, with the exception of a cousin in TX and AZ.  My mom comes up a lot of weekends during the fall/winter and stays with us just because it's fun hanging out.  H's family (mom's side) mostly lives in GA.  2 are in MD, and his dad's side lives in MI.  They're everywherrreee!

We have 1 dog - golden retriever - named Buddy, and 2 cats - Luke and Roo.  They are MY BOYZ and I love them soooo much!

I'm an x-ray tech and a mammographer.  H works in Central Booking for the county.  We want to buy a house as soon as possible in this area.  We really like it here :)

  • First time posting here! I figure I know you ladies already so all the negative stuff I've heard about The Nest/Bump shouldn't apply. :)

Husband and I live in metro Milwaukee, in the Dairy state of Wisconsin, home of the Green Bay Packers!!!  We live about 10 minutes from downtown where we were married.  We are both from Michigan but are here because of my career.  We like it well enough and may be looking to buy a house, as we are currently renters.

Sadly, our families are still in Michigan so we don't see them that often.  It's about a 4-hour drive to H's family and a 6-hour drive to mine in Detroit.

We don't have any pets, because I'm allergic to animal fur.  We might get a bird in the new year, but if the bird doesn't sleep at night, that'll be a problem because I have to wake up at 2:00AM for work.

Good to see you ladies here, even though my husband thinks this is a bit odd. Men! :)

    Cheers!

  • DH and I live about an hour and a half north of Pittsburgh PA.  We live in a two story brick home which was originally a one room schoolhouse.  We have a tenant who rents the upstairs.  Downstairs is shared with my elderly mother, two dogs, two cats, and a bird.
  • I live in a major city in an apartment on my former college campus, where we got married. I just graduated but the partner school I transfer to demolished their student housing so we get to stay here for the next 2 years. We have H's children part time and have two cats.

My first post here on TN.

  • Hello!

DH and I live in Boston, in a really nice area of the city. It's actually on the edge of the city, so it's quiet, but you can hop a bus and be downtown. We rent a two bedroom apartment that we share with our dogs, Pinky- a maltipoo, and Henri- a mutt, and cat, Mati.

My family lives about 9 hours away in Erie, Pennsylvania and DH's mother lives in Southern New Jersey, about 6 hours away.

  • Hi ladies!!

H (I keep wanting to type FI!) and I live in a Milwaukee, WI suburb in a 2 bedroom apartment.  Now that the wedding is over, I'm getting serious about saving for a down payment on a home.  My goal is to be in to a house by our 5 year wedding anniversary, but I want to have a 20% down payment before we do.  We'll end up looking for the typical 4 bed, 2.5 bath suburban home, so we'll see how that goes. I really want it to happen in less than 5 years.  It's us and our dog Squirt, a 5 year old terrier mix who is so uber-spoiled it's ridiculous.  We live pretty close to all of his family, and my mom and my maternal grandmother are less than 20 minutes away.

  • I LOVE that there are a few other KY wifeys!

My sweet H and I currently live in Lexington, KY, where he's finishing grad school. We live in a VERY small apartment (it will be fun to look back on), and it's just the two of us.I am currently working fully time as a caregiver while he finishes school, and I will return in the fall to finish my degree. In August, we will be moving to Columbus, OH (where I'm from) because he will start an accounting job. Our goal is to rent for another two years while saving for a down payment on a house, and hopefully be able to buy right after I finish school.
