How far away do you live from your parents? Walking distance from my dad (a little over a mile maybe?), 45 min drive from mom
How often do you see them? not as often as a lot of people I know see their parents. maybe once every few weeks, but I can easily swing by my dad's to drop something off or if I need something.
How far away do you live from your in-laws? There's no MIL/FIL, but within 30 min drive of most of DH's closest family members. One very close aunt and uncle (they're basically his stand-in parents) are a 6 hour drive in very northern NYS.
How often do you see them? We see some of them more often than we see my own family/parents. Only one or two times a year for the 6 hour away aunt and uncle though.
If you could, what would you change about the set up? Make his aunt and uncle closer to us and the rest of our family. I'd probably rank them higher in how much I'd like them to be around than at least half of the close-by relatives on both sides. But we couldn't leave the rest of our families to be closer to just them
Would it change if you had children? Nothing would change. It would be even more important that we stay where we are and be close to the majority of family.
How far away do you live from your parents? 5mins from my mom, 10mins from my dad-we all live in the same town.
How often do you see them? maybe a couple times a month. I talk to my mom on the phone at least once a week & we email every other day.
How far away do you live from your in-laws? DH's mom & step dad live 20mins away, DH's dad lives about 45mins away
How often do you see them? We rarely see DH's dad. Maybe twice a year. & I try to see DH's mom as little as possible b/c she drives me bonkers! LOL-we probably see them maybe once ever other month.
If you could, what would you change about the set up? Nothing. I like it the way it is.
Would it change if you had children? Once we have kids we'll probably see everyone a little bit more & I don't think we'd ever move to far away from where we are b/c we like having family close. I think it's important.

How far away do you live from your parents? 1.5 hours south of STL
How often do you see them? On average once a month. Some months more, some less
How far away do you live from your in-laws? They are not together, but both live 1.5 hours southwest of STL
How often do you see them? MIL - about 3-4 times a year, FIL - about 2 times a year
If you could, what would you change about the set up? Some days I wish my parents lived in STL other days I like to have the distance. It would be more convenient overall for DH if MIL lived closer especially since she won't drive outside of her itty bitty town, but that would mean I would have to see her more often which is not something on my wish list. I would be perfectly content if I never saw FIL again. The story with DH's family is unfortunately not a happy one and is a very odd, stressful situation.
Would it change if you had children? My parents will most likely move to the STL area after they retire or it may be sped up after after kiddos come into the picture. The in-laws will be staying where they are. We will probably see my parents more after we have children and will see the in-laws the same few times a year.
How often do you see them? 3-4 tims a year. HOwever that has been due to wedding and such. I'm not sure how often I'll see them now that all my friends are married.

If you could, what would you change about the set up? I would move closer to home because I miss my family alot.
Would it change if you had children? They family would have to come see me more rather than me going home so much.

How often do you see them? I have no idea now. When she was 45 min I saw her every week, not sure now when I'll see her again.

If you could, what would you change about the set up? Flip it. Be close to my mom and really far away from the inlaws
Would it change if you had children? It will, we won't have kids until we're up by my mom.
How far away do you live from your parents? My mom 35 minutes, my dad, stepmom, and half bro and sis 40 minutes.
How often do you see them? Once or twice a month - I wish it was more. For my mom b/c it's just her and for my dad b/c I want to be a bigger part of my half bro and sis growing up. It's hard with us only having 1 car and DH working until 930/10 at night 2 or 3 times a week. Hmmm I spy a possible NY's resolution for me

Would it change if you had children? Most likely it would be more...them/us wanting to spend time with their grandchild, etc.
How far away do you live from your parents? About 1,500 miles or a 4 hour flight from Baltimore to Puerto Rico
How often do you see them? I try to see them at least once or twice a year
How far away do you live from your in-laws? About 550 miles, 9 hour drive or about and 1 1/2 hour flight.
How often do you see them? Same as my parents, once or twice a year.
If you could, what would you change about the set up? Nothing, I like having our own place and our own life completely separate from them. Don't get me wrong, I do miss them and wish we had more vacation time to make for longer visits, but I like our set up.
Would it change if you had children? Nope. Well maybe they will visit more, but that's about it.

How far away do you live from your parents? 3 hours from Mum, 3.5 from Dad
How often do you see them? Dad maybe 6 times a year, Mum comes over and stays for days at a time, so she comes over at least once a month if not more
How far away do you live from your in-laws? Like 1000 miles? Its about a 22 hour drive if you drove straight thru.
How often do you see them? Before Ian, we flew down there at least 3 times a year. And my mother in law had been up once before we had him in the 4 years Drew lived here before Ian was born.
If you could, what would you change about the set up? Maybe make it easier for his family to come up here.
Would it change if you had children? It did. MIL has been up here twice since Ian was born. And dad has been over here 4 times since he was born and he had never been here in the 3 years I lived here.
How far away do you live from your parents? My mom is 2 hours/my dad is 4 hours in ths summer & 20 hours in the winter
How often do you see them? Try to see my mom once a month, sometimes it works out to more/less/ my dad, usually about 2 or 3 x's a year

How often do you see them? 3-6 times a year depending on the year. This year I saw them a lot since I was living in Wisconsin for the summer.
How far away do you live from your in-laws? XILs- San Diego to NoCal and Seattle. FILs- FMIL lives right up the street (like 5 miles?) and FFIL will soon be living on the same property as us.
How often do you see them? We never saw the XILs. FMIL I see all the time- at least 2-3 times a week and when I don't see her she usually calls. FFIL I've only met once but, like I said, we'll be living on the same property soon!
If you could, what would you change about the set up? I'd have my whole family move to CA with me. I'd love to have them closer/see them more.
Would it change if you had children? Have my parents closer. Free baby sitters!
