question for moms re:strollers
Wondering abot how old LO's need to be to use an umbrella stroller? We are going to AZ in march and I want to have a stroller for the airport but I don't think I want to take my travel system stroller. It's not THAT big (we got a flipit), but I think it gives me a good excuse to buy a smaller stroller.

IDK, I've never used an umbrella stoller for A.
We have this one by Combi as our lightweight one.
It was about $80 but I first bought it to travel with DS to Utah when he was six mos. I love it's portability and it is lightweight. It actually has a shoulder strap you can sling over to carry it with.
I like the Combi too. It is inexpensive also. I have never used an umbrella stroller, not a fan of them. Addison is going to be 4 and we have gone a lot of places with her that involved her being in the stroller often: DC, Chicago, Disney a couple times, Vegas, CA, VB etc. Umbrella strollers are not comfortable and really don't offer the support the baby needs. I would invest in a good lightweight stroller b/c you will use it for years to come. I have 3 strollers now and honestly my favorite is my big 'ole Graco one. I love the basket size and it really is not all that heavy. I've lugged it through the airport on numerous occasions. I know Jill has a couple of awesome strollers but those are more expensive.
I use one often, more for quick trips and when I don't need a full load to put in the basket. I used it once they can start sitting up on their own pretty well, so around 6 months or so I would say.
Unless the umbrella stroller has a good recline, I would say not until she is sitting up really well on her own (6 months or so). The super cheap ones don't have really good support and don't recline so it wouldn't be comfy unless she had good control.
I'm a stroller junkie. I have 3, LOL. My main stroller is a Bugaboo Frog, but I also have a really nice Maclaren, the Techno XLR with a recline for our lightweight. My other stroller is a Combi that I despise, it isn't worth the $80 or $90 that they cost. I'd actually like to toss it onto 475 and let a truck hit it.
We just got MIL a First Years from BRU for $30 and I like it better than the Combi.
My friend got one of those $19.99 ones from BRU and she said it was horrible.
Oh and if you are taking it on the plane, make sure it fits overhead, otherwise you will have to gate check it and it may or may not come out they way it went in. My cousin gate checked her stroller and it came back destroyed. Not regular checked, just gate checked. The airline wouldn't replace it either, so I wouldn't spend a ton on whatever you choose.
But, if you are looking to invest in a lightweight stroller (I think they are necessary) because you don't always feel like lugging the full sized around. Maclarens are really nice, the Volo is a good one and so is the Quest. Also, the Quinny Zapps are super sweet, I kinda wish I had one of those too.
I have a problem. I need a 12 step for strollers.
I want to have another baby, just so I can get the Bugaboo double, LMFAO.
We don't need to take a carseat, my nephew just moved in to a booster and my sister still has his convertable. She also still has a stroller so we really only need it for in the airport.
That is what I would do too. If you don't need to bring the stroller then by all means don't.
