I just realized I haven't really read a book since summer...how sad is that?! Throw me some of your favorite books of 2010. I'll pretty much sit down to read most anything except vampire/sci-fi stuff.
TIA!!
Re: Book Reccs Please!
I'm starting to sound like a broken record :P Some of these are older but they're ones I've read in the last couple of years and really liked:
The Help, The Thirteenth Tale, Kitchen Confidential, The Glass Castle, The Time Traveler's Wife, The Kite Runner/A THousand Splendid Suns, Outlander series, The Lovely Bones, The Red Tent, Three Cups of Tea, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
So far this year I have read and loved:
Some Girls by Jillian Lauren
American Wife by Curtis Settenfield
The White Queen by Phillippa Gregory
The Thorn by Beverly Lewis
For the Roses by Julie Garwood
There are more, but I cannot remember them all.
Time Traveler's Wife, Glass Castle, Stay...
sorry! I didn't read much either. and I think TTW and GC were from last year.
Helpful, no? haha. Good luck!
The only novels I've read in the last few months are by L.M. Montgomery because I am trying to finish all her books. Her most adult novel is the Blue Castle, which I recommend. http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Castle-L-M-Montgomery/dp/1849027544/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0
I don't really pay attention to whether books are new or not so these are not particularly recent recs.
Look at Me, An Edible Woman, Deafening, History of the Wife, A Room of One's Own, the Ash Garden, My Name is Red, Sarah Canary, Microserfs, Shampoo Planet, Perma Red, All Families are Psychotic, Flux, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Mirror Mirror

If you like chick lit, read A Total Waste of Makeup by Kim Gruenenfelder. It is HILARIOUS and so quick and fun. She wrote a sequel too called Misery Loves Cabernet...equally as hilarious.
I also love anything Sophie Kinsella or Emily Giffin.
For non-chick lit I really liked the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and The girl who played with Fire...I haven't read the third yet.
I was just thinking I've read so many good books lately that I wanted to post about it. Lately:
- The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins (everyone who reads them loves them)
- The Help
- The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry
- Anything by Dennis Lehane - Shutter Island, A Drink Before the War, etc.
- The Sookie Stackhouse series (I know you said no vampires, but it's so freaking addicting. I can't put these books down.)
I'm in college to be an elementary school teacher, so most of my picks from the year are in the young adult section, but that doesn't make them any less fabulous. Most of them are really quick reads and I only mention them because I was so blown away by them:
I Thought My Soul Would Rise and Fly by Joyce Hansen
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
Love That Dog by Sharon Creech
And some non young adult/children books:
Brida by Paulo Coelho
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
Patty, have you seen the blog "Stories and Sweeties"? It's cute. She reads a lot of YA books, and she rates each book by giving it 1-5 cupcakes!

Some of my favorite books like Water for Elephants and The Time Traveler's Wife have already been mentioned.
Others that I love are:
City of Thieves by David Benioff
The Princess Bride by William Goldman
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
Perpetua by Rachel Peterson
and anything by Lori Notaro. All of her books are super hilarious, but my favorite is The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death
I was totally bored by it in the beginning too, but powered through and somewhere along the line it became more enjoyable (although I'm still not sure I loved it). For me it was just decent.
Zeitoun and What is the What by Dave Eggers have been recent favorites. LOVED them both.
I recently read Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel, and while it's just plain WEIRD, by the end it became one of the most haunting and thought-provoking books I've read in a long time. I highly recommend it (and sticking through with it until the end, even when it seems sort of boring and random. It's worth it in the end).
I'll add another rec for Three Cups of Tea. Definitely worth reading!
I had to power through the beginning because I thought it was boring too. But I ended up loving it and am glad I finished! The same thing happened with City of Thieves. But it ended up being such an amazing book!
so, so many. Follow the link in my sig ;-)
(I'm so lazy when typing 1 handed...sorry!)
