Is there a way to boost your laptops wireless range?

I work at a hospital which has wireless internet and our offices are in what would technically be the basement. So the signal is low- I was wondering if there's some way to boost my laptops signal range? I bring my personal laptop to work to work on it so I can take things home but the signal will drop and in out. Thanks for any advice!

Re: Is there a way to boost your laptops wireless range?

  • Your laptop is just a receiver, like a radio. The signal would have to be boosted at the point of transmission or use something like a repeater to strengthen the signal in the basement.

Okay I didn't know that- thanks!
  • That's true. But as your IT department if they can put another wireless access point closer to your department so you can get a better signal.

  • actually, this  party true. the laptop does broadcast but  it is not an access point. The  problem is not  so much signal  strength but  more likely  what  the signal  have to  pass  through (ie  reinforced  concrete  walls   filled  it  wire.
