I'm thinking about adopting another dog

Well, truth be told.....TWO dogs.  There is a rescue group I follow on FB and they just saved a brother/sister from death row.  They are beautiful black labs.

I have one....what's two more right?  LOL image

Shrek needs a playmate but if I got one of these dogs, I'd have to get both.  I can't separate them!!!

  • Awww how cute. Yea, I agree that you would have to get both, so they won't be separated. Shrek would love having playmates ;). What's your hubby think?

  • Got a lotta land?  They're adorable, but holy crap that's a lot of dog.
  • Meh,  we don't need a lot of land per se.  Labs are lovers.  Shrek is an inside dog and those 2 would be as well.  We do however have a nice big backyard for them to play and lots of options to take them walking and to dog parks.

DH says 3 is too many.  He also said yesterday, it was my call (this was before I found both of these beauties).  I'll think about it more.  3 might be too many, especially if we miraculously have a baby in 2011.

Maybe I'll find another labbie that needs a home too :)

  • I'm a huge advocate for dog adoption. I would have 100 dogs if I could.  But Larissa is right, that's a lot of dogs, though they probably would keep each other entertained:)

  • The big backyard for playing was more what I meant.  Where I come from, all dogs are indoor dogs, but labs are high energy and need to play.  Honestly, if you're going to have a baby (and I hope you are) the last thing you want is two more labs.
  • Yeah, 3 dogs probably is too many right now.  I'll have to stick with just finding one more for Shrek to play with.  He needs a friend!

We'll have 3 eventually though.  I want a trifecta (black, chocolate, yellow)!

I adopted Shrek from a kill shelter when he was 6 weeks old.  His entire litter was dumped on the side of the road.  He was the only boy and I took him and one of his sisters out to play.  Shrek came and sat in my lap and I knew he was for me :)

We've been inseparable ever since.  I actually broke up with a guy because he didn't like dogs.  I told him we were a package deal.  I didn't freaking spend 10k on surgeries just to send him back to a shelter again TYVM!

I will always adopt for shelters or rescue's!  There are just too many dogs being euthanized for no dang reason!

  • Hey, you're preaching to the choir.  I once went on a date with a guy who told me that he didn't believe in pets because "You get attached to them, and then they die, and then where are you?"  I said, "You can say the same thing about people," and he agreed.

Um... yeah.  That was our first & last date.

We're pet people, especially rescue.  My sis did her internship at the ASPCA.  E & I have a dog & 3 cats, mom & dad have a dog, sis & BIL have 2 dogs, a cat, a bearded dragon, and a tree frog.  All rescues except for the beardie.

  • They're so cute, but that is a lot of dog.

Labs are great, I love the chocolate ones, but they do need a lot of room becuase they're so high strung, and they need to burn off all that energy, but a playmate for Shrek would be a good thing.

  • They're so sweet!  I would be hesitant unless I had a good amount of land for them to run around, though.

We have an itch to adopt in a bad way. We're leaning towards boxers.

  • They are beautiful- but I would cut off my toes before having two (or three) black labs at once! Mally is more than enough for me to handle!

(Mally says, what do you mean, Mom? I'm a sweet puppy! I don't chew everything in site!)

  • 3 black labs is a whole lotta dog hair.

  • Until recently we've always had at least three dogs.  Smile  Three is definitely doable, but it has been nice only having two around especially with the baby.  I could see us having three once Will is a little older.

  • Aw. I love labs. My sister has a black and a chocolate. Nate had a ball playing with them at Christmas. He wants a pet. Alas, DH is anti-pet.
