Cleaning question

Hello we just bought a house and we are closing on Tuesday. The house is in move in condition. The only problem is that it is filthy!

We have to clean the carpets, wash down all the walls, clean the ceiling fans, scrub down the bathroom and kitchen. It also came with all the appliances so I need to do a deep cleaning on those too.

Do you ladies have any tips on making the whole process a little less tedious? Also what kind of cleaning supplies should I use? I obviously want to disinfect while cleaning.

Thanks

Re: Cleaning question

  • Do you have the funds to hire a cleaning service to do it?

  • Congratulations on your new home. Here are a few products I use that are EXCELLENT for cleaning and disinfecting:

    1. 409 -Removes just about anything.

    2. Clorox Bleach Clean up- Excellent for cleaning bathrooms

    3. Easy off- If your stove is in need of cleaning, just spray it on, let it sit for about an hour while you clean other things, and the grease really just comes off.(Note: don't spray it on the print of the stove that says "on, lite, 1,2,3" it peels it off)

    4. Awesome- It's a multi use degreaser sold in any type of 99c store. It has no harsh chemicals, it doesn't smell and works so well on tough stains. I use it alot on my laundry, and on my tub.

    Good luck!

  • To be honest, it would probably be easier just to hire a cleaning service.

  • Can you enlist the help of friends or family? We had a bit of a 'cleaning party' when we bought our house. I went to the dollar store and bought all the cleaning supplies needed so there was plenty for all.

Will you be painting? I always feel like a fresh coat of paint is a great way to make a house feel clean and your own.

I use a 50/50 vinegar/water solution for most kitchen and bathroom cleaning. The vinegar smell goes away when it dries, but you can add a few drops of essential oils if you wanted to make it smell better.

If you haven't used them before, I highly recommend magic erasers, Mr. Clean or the generic brand works too. They are great for pretty much anything!
