Opinions on bathroom color

We're planning on selling our house in the next 2 years so we're making some improvements.  I've already put up a backsplash in the kitchen, it was so easy that we decided to do some tiling in the bathroom.  What color would YOU like to see in a bathroom of a house you were looking to buy.

 a. brown - brown walls with this tile behind the sink

image

b. teal - spa feel, white walls with this teal tile

image

c. Fun - the lightest green in the tiles with these tiles

I'm leaning toward the brown, it's a master bath inside the master bedroom and that will be a cafe color

Re: Opinions on bathroom color

  • I voted for teal because I like my bathroom to be light in color.  I think you could even have the walls divided with trim so that there is a cocoa color on the bottom and white on top and you could pair it with dark wood.
  • I voted for teal, but to be perfectly honest, they're all a little too much for my taste. I like my rooms to be a blank slate that I can make whatever I want, and teal, or any colored tiles, make that difficult. If you went with a more subtle colored tile, like a beige, or stone or grey, I could see that being more appealing.
  • I think the brown is more of a neutral and mature color.  I like the lighter colors but I think for resale, neutral is the way to go.

This. I think you could make it more neutral, which would be a plus for potential buyers. Maybe a light brown/taupe? Or beige/ivory with brown accessories that can be changed by the new owner?

  • I voted brown because its more of a neutral color but I think whatever you do with the tile, for resale purposes, I would do something really light on the walls, a cream or a white or a really light beige.  Too much of a darker color is going to make it look smaller and no one likes small. :-)

  • I voted for teal.  I think the brown would make the bathroom too dark and I think the green looks kind of dated.  I tend to like bathrooms in lighter colors.  However, my Mom did their guest bath in a dark purple and has really modern fixtures in it and white towels/accessories and that looks really pretty and elegant.

  • I'm not super crazy about any of them, to be honest. But maybe if we saw the bathroom we could get a better idea of what you're going for? Would the rest of the walls be white?

  • I would pick a more neutral tile color (ivory, grey, etc) and go a little bolder on the paint color because as a potential buyer I pretty much ignore paint colors as I can easily change that, but tile work is a longer and more expensive project.

  • Thanks for your opinions!  We're still planning on staying here for another 2 years and this is a project I want to do sooner than later and I hate boring.  I would not be happy with white or beige, I'm a color kind of person, my kitchen is orange, our bedroom right now is bright blue!  This is a starter house, so more than likely a younger couple will move in here, so I don't think a little bit of color in the bathroom would be too terrible.  But, I haven't done it yet, so who knows what we'll end up doing!

    Thanks again!

  • Like PP's said, I think going more neutral is best to resale.

I voted for brown for that reason, but also b/c the combo you showed for the brown just felt so rich and inviting.

Personally, I love the neutral blank slate idea. Our rental bathroom is a light beige/tan with black granite countertops and white cabinents.  We were totally able to make it our own with our show curtain, towels and accessories we choose. Out of all the rooms in our apt, it's the one complimented the most
