Why that McCain volunteer's "mutilation" story smells awfully weird
From Michelle Malkin! ?I agree--why is the B backwards? ?And why did she go back to the scene before calling the cops? ?I seriously don't believe this girl. ?I hope I'm wrong, but I see nothing normal about her story.
Throughout my career, I?ve covered dozens of?fake hate crimes???campus hate crime hoaxes, Muslim hate crime hoaxes, fake noose hangings, etc., etc., etc. Most were perpetrated by liberals, but there have been?some?shameful ones onour side?of the aisle as well.I?ve reported on the great lengths that warped attention-seekers have gone to in perpetrating fake hate crimes, including beating themselves up, carving swastikas on their dorm room doors and walls, locking themselves in bathroom stalls, and burning down their own houses.Which is why I?m not jumping up and down with outrage over Drudge-promoted story of a McCain volunteer claiming to have been attacked by a black man whom she accused of carving a ?B? in her face after spotting her McCain bumper sticker.She refused medical treatment after reporting the incident to police. Why on earth would she do that?Look at her face (photo via?Hot Air):?What?s wrong with the ?B??
I share my reader Kathy?s suspicions on this. She writes:Notice how the ?B? is backwards on the right cheek??if you were looking in a mirror and put it on your own face?it would appear backwards and would probably be on your own right cheek (due to most folks are right handed)??she put it on her own face but forgot it would show up backwards.She may have been robbed and beaten but I think she added the ?B??.Take a close look at the picture.Maaaaybe the alleged robber straddled her upside-down while carving it into her face.Maybe.But I?ve got my doubts.The woman has been identified as GOP volunteer Ashley Todd of Texas. I admit that it's fishy to me too. I didn't think it was until I saw the picture. The "B" looks too shallow. If someone did that in a rage I would expect the cut to be much deeper. It almost looks like a cigarette burn.?

Even if it is true, why do we assume that this is politically motivated? Was she wearing something that indicated she was a volunteer? Was she well known as a McCain supporter in the community? Why would a crazy pick her out as a McCain fan? And a B could really mean anything. Why does it automatically mean Barack? Now if it said "Hope", then I would get suspicious.
In any case, I really hope this is not politically motivated. And if she made this up, I hope she seeks mental treatment.

Did you read the story? the guy supposedly became enraged b/c her car at McCain stickers all over it and as he was beating her up said he'd "teach her a lesson for supporting McCain"?
ETA: If the story is true the mugging wasn't politically motivated, but her beat down afterwards was. ?

Yup. It would have been jagged and rough.
I feel sick to my stomach -- at least as or more than when I just heard the inital attack story. Either way, one of the people is certifiable.
I also have a hard time believing that a mugger would take the time to so clearly articulate his or her motivations (i.e., the whole "that's what you get for supporting McCain" thing rings totally false to me). Even more than the perfectly scratched backward B, that quote does not pass the smell test.
I was the victim of a home invastion back when I was in grad school, and the dude didn't exactly explain why the hell he was in my house. He lied and lied and lied about it. I'm no expert, but I am having a very hard time believing this woman. I feel like a bad person, but I just don't buy it.
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
What's the other way around??
If an Obama staffer was attacked and found an M on their face. I don't understand why everyone is dismissing the fact that this girl has a backwards B on her face, like she'd WANT to do something like this. I've heard of cutting, but not putting backwards letters on her face and then having a friend repeatedly punching her to give her black eyes. Bunny, what was that smarty-pants phrase again?
Here's what I think about her photo: She does not look like someone repeatedly punched and kicked. I've seen those photos.
And to the scratched B. Would she just lie there and let him do it? Of course not. So he would have had to have put her face in a vise-like grip to keep her moving from a cm to get a "B" like that. So where are those bruises?
And as already mentioned, a traumatized attack victim, unfamiliar with the area, hysterical but manages to drive to her friend's house. And then they go and drive to the ATM together - the scene of her attack - without police escort? She wasn't thinking - what if he's there?
And then she releases her own photo?
None of that adds up to anything I've read about how a crime victim behaves.
I 100% agree with BM and LaLa. This just doesn't fit the mold of any violent crime I know of. Plus, there are some severe inconsistencies in her story.
The B was probably backwards b/c this gal isn't too bright and didn't realize she was doing it backwards in the mirror.
I don't want it to be this way, b/c her making this up is equally as sick as someone actually doing it. But there are significant inconsistencies in her story.

Here are my issues with it--the B is backwards, shallow, and perfectly formed. ?Her face also doesn't look like it was just beaten--it wouldn't be purple that fast. ?
That was my initial reaction to reading the "she faked it" posts below.
That said, I still think she staged it.
It died long before 2008.
